I have a copy of vista home premium, oem. I no longer require this, is it possible to sell this on or is it a problem?

Really don't need it so i hope MS haven't made it difficult.

If you change your motherboard you will need to purchase a new license under the EULA, by getting it reactivated with a new motherboard your not legaly licensed and the same will go to the person who possibly buys your copy.

Rob

Edit: If you get a chance do a search of this area of the forum for OEM and there should be better information :)

well done MS, how unfair can you get.

I quite honestly don't give a stuff if i change my motherboard and not properly licenced. My hatred for MS gets ever stronger.

That's precisely why OEM is so much cheaper than retail - you should be grateful they allow you to buy it TBH. If you sold the whole machine though, you could pass Vista along with it...

well i am selling most of my pc parts this week, but i wanted to do it seperatly.

I suppose if someone was interested in the motherboard, memory and cpu, and also wants vista i can do this. but i think the odds of this are not really high.

Guess i'll hold onto it.

someone might, anyone who's previously bought an OEM copy of Vista for there old PC will want a new copy of it.

i don't know, after doing some reading you can still get it activated, it's just not really legal.

I'll be getting a new motherboard soon, guess i'll find out then :P

So you cant simply get it reactivated like you could with XP? I know its not legal, but is that route impossible now?

it's illegal, but it can be done.

Even with a different motherboard if you just tell them your old motherboard was borked they'll reactivate it for you.

*obviously that is illegal and you shouldn't do it.

hmmm, well it looks like technically you can sell it to someone and the other party willbe fine and get a perfectly working copy of vista, but it's not really legal.

I guess if i attempted to sell my copy in the MM, i'd get in trouble eh? :D

Hello ghost101, yes but you certainly won't be licensed to use that copy of Windows. :)

Hello neologan, well if you do, you will be no longer licensed.

I guess if i attempted to sell my copy in the MM, i'd get in trouble eh? :D

Indeed you would. Sell your motherboard along with the copy of Windows Vista that you have. :)
