FA Cup 5th Round *Spoilers*

The UEFA Cup is undeniably a greater achievement than the French league. (Ask Houllier; he has 3 French league titles, but only one UEFA Cup).

Er, hang on a minute. This joker is trying to bash Wenger because he hasn't won the UEFA cup? Maybe one of the reasons for that is that his sides are normally playing in the CL. The last time I remember us playing in the UEFA cup, we lost the final on penalties. So yeah, winning the UEFA cup is quite an achievement, because you have to be crap enough to be allowed to play in it!

This will cheer you up Goons :D

Gunner regret that, Essien

Published: 16 Feb 2008

CHELSEA star Michael Essien scores an embarrassing own goal – by being pictured in an Arsenal shirt.
The midfielder, 25, who earns £90,000 a week, was snapped in the top of his London rivals on a trip to his native Ghana.

Essien explained his Gunners gaffe saying: “The shirt is one I swapped with Emmanuel Adebayor after a game last season.

“I gave it to my pal Eric. A girl asked for a photo. I didn’t want to do it bare-chested – so Eric lent me the shirt.”

BBC seemed to be bumming Rooney a lot yesterday, but I thought Fletcher was the main man. About time the lad got some praise.

Was always going to be tough playing at OT without 7 of the first XI, but it's still disappointing that they didn't show more.

Hopefully we will see a much stronger performance on Wednesday. Although unlike some fans, I want to win every competition, having a couple of less games could be beneficial come the nightmare run of fixtures in late March/Early April.

every team has its deluded fans, trouble is though, its these fans who are most vocal and give the rest of us a bad name. to be honest, you can select statistics to prove anything you want.

Completely agree, it's something I've brought up several times both here and in consoles. Statistics can be bent to prove any means.
I messaged my Liverpool supporting mate yesterday and he was devastated and embarassed, he's another who wants Benitez out. He's had his chance and taken the club nowhere despite a lot of money being spent.

I doubt it. If we don't finish 4th then I think it's certain he wont be here next season.

Liverpool shouldn't even be comprehending a 4th place finish, they are a huge club and shouldn't be settling for scraping into Europe. Man Utd fans were furious at finishing 3rd and disappointed at finishing 2nd.
It's a shame when it comes down to sticking with someone because they managed to finish 4th and qualify for the Champions League, especially with the money spent.

It should be a minimum requirement to finish 4th AND win the Champions League for Benitez.

There's no defending our performances this season and especially yesterday, however talk of sacking Benitez before the end of the season is a joke. Imo, providing we qualify for the CL he deserves another season.

I know times are different but you only have to look at the most successful managers and see that they're the ones who've been given time. This is Benitez's 4th season with us, Houllier had 6 seasons and didn't qualify for the CL in half of those let alone reach the final or win it. Benitez has built the foundations of a very good squad, made us far more competitve in Europe and although not by much, we have progressed in the league. However we should be closer in the league and there is no denying that but i can't help but think that without the off-field problems (and injuries to a lesser extent) we would have been this season.

Hopefully all the ownership bs is over with pretty soon and we can concentrate on whats happening on the pitch next season and if Benitez hasn't significantly closed the gap then, then he should go.

I presume that would be the minimum for all the top 4 too? If so then Wenger would have been sacked in previous seasons as would have Fergie when you only won the CC the other year and when he won nothing the year before.

I think someone has to go at liverpool, and it has to be either Benitez or Hicks/Gillett. With all the happenings over the course of this season, I think its become untenable for them to all work together and its creating a helluva cloud at the club. So I think one side of it needs to go, even if its just to freshen the air so the club can move forward.

The question will be which of them will be the ones to go.

Personally, if I was given the choice, I think I would like to see Hicks/Gillett part ways with Liverpool (never been particularly fond of big businessmen buying into sports club, regardless of any level of success), and Benitez given one more season.

However, if Benitez was the one to go, I think it could prove tough to choose another manager. As much as I hate to say it, as I personally dont like the guy, I think Mourinho would be the obvious choice. Which in itself would beg the question of whether or not the rumour that part of his exit deal at Chelsea was that he couldnt manage another premiership club this season. If that was the case, and Mourinho was the choice, then Benitez couldnt go til the end of the season.

As I say though, my choice would be hicks/gillett to go, Benitez to be given one final year to take a title shot.

There weren't 4 Champions League places when Houllier was boss otherwise he would have.

Wenger and Ferguson have built squads from nothing. Ferguson built his 3rd Title winning squad last season and is adapting it still. Wenger has also done it in the past twice, Benitez has thrown a lot of cash at a lot of very average players.

If you were to look at players that have consistently delivered quality you're looking at a long list of one. Reina.
There have been other buys that have delivered in fits and spurts, be it over one season or between many injuries such as Alonso and Agger and potentially Torres, but so far, only Reina has delivered consistently. Not good for a lot of money spent.
