Toshiba calling it quits on HD-DVD

So basically because a store in america stops selling it that means worldwide bluray wins. Funny how one american store can supposodly impact things globally..
yes but the key to this new story is that 1 of the HD-DVD players maker is stoping production.

On another note I am starting to see the PS2 story repeating itslef with the PS3 thanks to the ability to watch movies on it

MS won't win with digital distribution but just like the XBox project they are trying to get their foot in the door to use as a platform to launch future projects.

If anything with BDs success now guranteed and this primarily means Sony will continue to sell the PS3 as the most affordable and most popular form of BD player.

Doing so for them not only puts a movie player in a home but now a complete entertainment device with increased posibilities of not only BD movies but PS3 games and money obtained from future online services or indeed PSP connectivity or upcoming PS-Phone.

Very smart move on Sonys behalf and if anything with Sonys backing from the movie studios and having thier own studios already in place they moreso than Microsoft with "Home" will be in a much stronger position to use that as a carrier for future advertising and download services. Thier philosophy seems to be make it free for the gamers/console owners but make money out of sponsers/advertising/partners and download services.

Home will become massive and bigger than "WOW" imo making the largest online community within the next 2-3 years.
Just got a feeling about it....

In terms of users, most likely as its a free client. In terms of revenue created from Home, I seriously doubt it.

Well played sony.

Does this mean soon be able to get transformers on BD :)?

This is good news for movie fans. That the format war is over. Awaits price drops :D

I don't think BD will replace DVD as fast as DVD replaced VHS. I don't think the demand is really there tbh, and BD (along with HD TV's) really needs to come down in price a lot.

DVDs still look fantastic on a good crt tv, which is what most people have.

Home is a massive market for advertising though, WoW isn't.

As big as it is, I still doubt its revenue will be anywhere near WoW's. Also with WotLK on the horizon Blizzard are set for another windfall with the majority of core WoW players buying the expansion.
