True, Liverpool were unlucky, but there was certainly a level of underestimation towards Barnsleh, putting Itandje in ahead of Reina and not playing Gerrard doesn't make me think otherwise.

For the first time yesterday I wasn't too impressed with Lucas though, he's certainly a talent though.
 
Well that was an embarrassing performance to say the least, you could tell from the first minute Man Utd were well up for it and our lot were at the races. Credit to the mancs because they wanted it more and it pains me to say 4-0 was a fair reflection of their dominance.

In Wenger's defence we had quite an injury crisis going into the game but the performance still wasn't good enough. No shame in losing at Old Trafford but there is shame in not trying and many players yesterday weren't giving it their all.

Im not sure we underestimated them in selection terms. The players picked were more than capable of winning, however the ones who were picked may have underestimated them. Like others said Alonso in particular had no interest whatsoever.

Itandje was going to play all cup games (up untill the semi-final) and shouldn't have had much to do. Gerrard and Mascherano were left of with Inter in mind but Lucas and Alonso were more than capable of beating Barnsley.
 
It's a lot of pressure to lay a match winning performance on the back of an untested kid and an underperforming CM who looks to be leaving in the summer. Gerrard or Mascherano should have started.

This is BARNSLEY we're talking about, at HOME. Lucas has put in enough good performances this year to justify a place in the side against a Championship team, and Alonso said a few days ago that's he's ready and wants a few starts to get back to his best.

The team selection really wasn't the problem.

I hope we get Bristol Rovers at home to give us a chance of getting to Wembley (semi final).

Failing that I wouldn't mind Man U or Chelsea :)

Exactly. What do you put it down to? Complacency? tactics? By resting players rafa is leaving himself open to criticism. How big an effect do you think that assistant leaving has had?
 
He wasn't his assistant as such. He was our fitness coach and an 'advisor' along with a few other of the backroom staff. The fitness side of his role had already been takenover by another guy which was part of the reason why he was said to leave.

It was just one of those games, we created enough chances and were by far the better team, but we just didn't manage to score goals more than the opposition.

The loss of Pako made quite a big difference to the team's performances imo, combined with the owner's antics it's been a very unstable season behind the scenes.

I think it was more of a coincidence that our form dropped after he left. The biggest effect imo has been the boardroom problems.
