FA Cup 5th Round *Spoilers*

Ignoring the Rafa love fest, I'd like to know how Southgate has hung onto the Borough job for so long.

It's 'Boro', it's Middlesbrough in full too, only one 'o'.
Southgate WILL be a good manager. He's got a team of youth players, lost his 2 star forwards (Yakubu and Viduka) at the start of the season and wasn't able to recruit anyone more than Mido and Aliadiere in upfront, the former has been injured all season.

What he has done is form a midfield and defence that have improved a lot over time this season, now they have a goal-scorer it's a case of getting them to gel. Middlesbrough have also been unlucky on many times this season, but Southgate WILL become a good manager.

The United v Arsenal game had draw written all over it. :(

Not a chance mate, although it should have been closer.

I don't think anyone expected that result, but a 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 result was what most people would have thought. I think a lot of people thought Arsenal would have won looking at the sides on paper (although both Arsenal and 'pool proved that paper means nothing this weekend :p).

Interesting typo from the Sky Sports website:
Arsenal star Gilberto Silva has warned Manchester United winger Nani he could get a kicking if he does cut out his showboating.
He best keep it up then.

I think Arsenal should worry about themselves more than commenting on a young lad playing well and enjoying himself and entertaining the fans (the point of football). All this criticism of skills is really annoying me, that's what I want to see.

Agreed. He hasn't spent that much until recently (Mido 6m and Alvez 12m) it's good he can attract players like that. It was like a breath of fresh air when McLaren left and Southgate took over, Boro are a lot mroe attacking now and at times good to watch

It sounded so ridiculous when Southgate was linked with the job. But respect to Gibson again giving him a chance and backing him with big money.

Have to agree with you on that mate, I like Gareth Southgate a lot. He's still really young in his career and the Boro chairman has had patience with him - as has most of the Boro fans.

He's got the potential to build a very decent squad with Boro - it's a big statement for the club with the sale of Woodgate this year and their £12(point something) million Alfonso Alvez.

It's a shame that all the strikers he's brought in have this year have had injury problems. Mido shows flashes of what he can do, but never stays at a club long enough or stays fit long enough to progress his ability and career.

Alvez has an incredible record in Dutch football and is thought of reasonably well in Brazil... He's still finding his fitness of course as he too has been out for a good while - They just have to pray that he comes good in the Premiership.

The two important things that have kept Boro up and kept Gareth his job even through the tough times - the fans are behind him, and so is the chairman.

Its more of a case of wanting the yanks out than DIC in, with it just so happening that DIC are interested.

They're certainly not guarenteed saviours but they can't be worse than the Yanks and they are very much investors however there is a difference between the 2.

The americans interest is just about making a fairly short-term profit where as DIC was set up to promote Dubai and to make Dubai non-reliant on oil in the long-term. You just have to look at the companies they invested in, HSBC and Sony to name just 2. They're investing in globally recognised companies which will provide a steady long-term investment not a quick buck.

Also their CEO is a known Liverpool fan who often attends games and has done for years.

don't you think you should change your sig? i mean you seem pretty desperate for someone to buy out liverpool and you were pretty keen on being taken over last summer. or is there some deeper meaning because the big plain in your face one would have a sig along the lines of 'buy us, buy us give us more money to spend please anyone else buy us' as being more appropriate. :p

oh and how come you are so sure the yanks are going? i haven't been keeping up but didn't they secure the financial repackaging and say they were in it for the long term?

EDIT: N/M pigeon_killer's beaten me to it. :)

Rovers could make the semis!
And haha, there must be someone in the FA with a grudge against ManU. Bet they get Chelsea if they make it to the semis.

I believe this will be Benitez's last season. I say that as he just can not leave the side alone. By that I mean at the start of the season we had a good start with good momentum going forward. The changes after change to 'rest' players meant that we dropped a hell of a lot of points which can only be attributed to the manager.

Players are getting fed up with playing well and then being dropped.

I don't hate Benitez I just think he needs to stop being stubburn and pick his best 11 players week in and week out. The only way he will be in a job at the beginning of next season is if he wins the Champions League and even if he does I don't know if that's enough to save him. With very good managers around such as Mourinho who has expressed an interest in Liverpool it can't be too long away.

Not sure whether to be happy with the Bristol Rovers draw or not. WBA presents a chance of a semi final, however, the luck must run out. It would have been nice to pull one of the big names out of the hat. An away trip to Man U or Chelsea, or even Portsmouth.
