The Return of The Champions League - *SPOILERS* - 19/20 Feb

That thrashing against Man Utd could be just what Arsenal need*. Hopefully now we'll be seen more as underdogs in the game, and not expected to win so obviously. Plus it might motivate us to prove ourselves again. And finally, to never, ever, ever leave Flamini** on the bench again.

ManU need to not take Lyon for granted. They're a damn good team, and I expect them to more than match you at home.

*Yeah ********, I'd have taken the win if you'd offered it.
**When human cloning gets perfected, I know who's first on my list to send to Asia.

Not to mention we have the Scottish Messi! :D

Isn't that like having sex with a monkey that looks like Halle Berry. Sure it looks like Halle Berry, but deep down you know it's not quite right.

My predictions

Liverpool v Inter Milan
Olympiakos v Chelsea
Roma v Real Madrid
Schalke 04 v FC Porto
Arsenal v AC Milan - Draw
Celtic v Barcelona
Fenerbahce v Sevilla
Lyon v Man Utd

Bit annoyed that the United game is only available on Sky, still I'm hoping I'll get to see Liverpool get stuffed by Inter so that might be worth it :p

Should be a close game in all seriousness, presuming the Liverpool players turn up this weekend. :)

I'm just worried about Barcelona, I reckon it'll be a draw at Parkhead (hopefully 0-0) and then the return leg will be up for the taking. To be honest I just want two good performances and then we'll see where we are.

everyone reckon that Ronaldo's tummy bug was just an excuse to leave him out at the weekend?

Also believe Nani has to be rested due to the kickings he got (both read from Sunday's papers but could be inaccurate)

I think Hargreaves was rested with Lyon in mind specifically - so hopefully him and Anderson or Carrick will play behind Tevez and Rooney

Personally cant see Liverpool winning (will be lucky if Torres can even start for one) but they could get a score draw

Chelsea are a dead cert to win, Arsenal will scrape a win

I think Arsenal will win 2 - 0 at the Emirates and then have a tough game at the San Siro. Man Utd will win both legs, probably come out 2 goals ahead on aggregate. Chelsea will win 1 - 0 at home then 0 - 0 away. Liverpool will put an astonishing double leg performance and win 13 - 0 overall.

I thought Ronaldo was simply just rested for the CL game and there was no injury or illness.

Nani hardly got a beating against Arsenal to be honest - a few ankle taps but nothing more.

I'm suprised to see people not wanting Scholes to play.
He had one poor performance (after being out for months) and people are ready to throw him to the dogs.
He remains our best CM imo.

Reuters news release today saying he was in the squad after recovering from an upset - and Fergie said he wanted to rest Ronny anyway.....but who knows

I think you are being a little leniant on Gallas there, it was quite a bit more than "a few taps" imo - espcially as for most of the time the ball had already gone

Paul Scholes will start, it's probably a sure bet. It's also a shame, the great player that he is but Anderson is better and he will be overlooked. Back to the old counter productive back passing again but hopefully he'll prove me wrong though.

Sagna's out because of the sudden death of his brother. I'd probably feel a bit better with him in the team, but gotta understand that family comes first.

Welll you never know - we could go with a 5 man midfield which would slightly lessen the damage of PS playing (compared to a 4 man midfield)

He was a absolutely fabulous player, but since the injury the two or three games he has played have been ok-ish at best imo

It's gonna to be a very hard task for SAF to pick his midfield, however is a selection headache such a bad thing to have? so many options in midfield, I'm pretty sure Hargreaves will fit into the equation due to his european experience. The three midfield players and two wide players worked extremely well against Arsenal though but I think we'll see a totally different set-up, I think Ripper's guess will probably be the line-up that takes the field on Wednesday

I think Scholsie is coming in for a lot of stick here without reason ;)

Fergie has to strike the balance between experience and getting a side capable of beating Lyon. Scholes is still getting his match fitness back and I think games like this his experience will be essential.

I hope we go out to get at least 2 goal cushion going into the away leg. Nothing worse than defending a 1-0 lead away from home. I expect a line up a bit like this

-------------- VDS ----------------

Brown --- Vidic --- Ferdinand --- Evra

------------- Hargreaves -----------

--- Ronaldo --- Scholes --- Giggs ---

------- Tevez ---------- Rooney ---

Thats as strong a side as we can put out unless you swap Scholes for Anderson or Carrick. I think Nani is a little inconsistent for a game like this. Who knows he might spring a suprise and play Fletcher on the right with Ronaldo on the left
