Really? The hacked versions i have seen just think they are a Dell OEM copy.

In order for the OS to think it's a Dell OEM copy, the cracked versions load a Dell bios emulation driver after the POST, prior to booting Vista.

Both my desktops have legit licensed XP Pro on them, which are activated etc, also have Vista Business (64bit) to install when SP1 is finally released in 2-3 weeks, which also has a legit license.

I don't see the point in running a pirated OS....:)

Never noticed that i will have to take a look again
Oh yes? ;)

Saving money is normally what pirates do it for. That and the rum. :D

Two of my PCs run legit Vista, my third is legit XP home. I think they will allow the pirated copies run and get updates on Vista for a little while yet. I think they are allowing them to help iron out the bugs in the OS, then pull them (like WGA in XP) when it becomes more mainstream to try to make people using dodgy copies to buy genuine ones. JMHO

i have a laptop running Linux (Redhat) not sure if its licesnced or not came with the lappy.

Oh of course it is to save money.
Most of them will give you some BS story about how if the software was cheaper they would actually buy it.

A retail copy of Vista Home Premium costs what - £125?
This copy will last you a lifetime - as long as it is only ever installed on one machine you can move it around as often as you like.
So let us assume that the average OS lasts 3 years.

365 x 3 gives us 1095 days being the "average" length of time somebody will use a particular OS for.
£125 over 1095 days, that means you are paying approx. 11p per day to use the OS.
This is the operating system, you use it every day that you use your computer and for the amount of money people will happily lose down the side of the sofa.

This is why I personally get mad when these so called "cool pirates" go on about the cost of software.
