It was more fun to drive, felt more chuckable and I preferred the power delivery style :)

Yeah i've heard that from others too... was just curious as to your thoughts..

On a completely seperate note, i've just noticed you currently have a better graphics card than me, that just feels wrong...:(

Hmm Interesting, I thought the CTR was one of the best hot hatches, clearly mistaken!

Well I think it is one of the best, no doubting that... it's just a bit of a marmite machine... you either love it or hate it... or otherwise as in my case feel a distinct indifference towards it.

Hmm Interesting, I thought the CTR was one of the best hot hatches, clearly mistaken!

It's not that the CTR is a bad car, it's very good, but I've found that people who have driven both have a clear favourite. Plus when I was looking it was a choice between a 5.5k Clio or a 12k Civic (the civic was 12 months newer though) and it as kind of a no brainer for the money. The Civic just wasn't worth the premium :( But it was fun to drive as well :)

Insurance isn't too bad on these, you're only a couple of months older than me but I've got a few more years ncb and my insurance was £300 this year all protected etc :) Greenflag do have a good repuation on Cliosport even though they weren't able to get me a reasonable quote!

Cracking choice mate, I'm insanely jealous! Sounds like you got a very good deal too.

I drove one back in November and instantly decided I want one. Got to wait till August though.

Well... i've just got back from 2 hours of driving pleasure, and the Clio is now mine and fully paid for MUAHAHAHAHA!

Took the two and a half hour train journey slog to the dealers to collect and they picked me up fomr the station in the car. Got back to the dealers and gave it a good inspection... the alloys have been all refurbed and look like brand new. Most of the little paint chips have been gone over with a bit of black paint, but nothing special there... there's still a couple about. Meh, I can sort those myself in future.

Also of great delight was that he appeared to er... forget to charge me the £295 extra for the extended 12 months warranty... he put the total down including the warranty extension on the invoice as £6'995 and we both signed it before I then paid... so I essentially got the extended warranty for free, woo-hoo! Ok so I had to fill the tank up myself as it was almost empty but meh... I chugged it with 97 ron as a treat and it only cost me £48 for a brimming tank.

It really was a great drive down the motorway... the cabin noise wasn't too bad and the ride was very smooth... certainly no worse than my Vectra SRi which this car is replacing! Cruis control is awesome... no idea how I survived without it before, I barely touched the pedals all the way! The car sits at almost spot on 3.5krpm @ 70mph and I found that perfectly comfortable, and economy was well above 30mpg... must have been 35+ considering it was on 21mpg average when I got it, and ended up at 32mpg average when I reached home. Certainly more than acceptable. Oh, how do you reset the bloomin trip computer? I can find out how to skip to the next feature, but couldnt see how to reset it to 0 or id have done a more accurate gauge of economy lol.

One thing I notice is that when you press accelerate there is a quiet-ish yet noticeable kind of little whooshing sound coming form the fan grill area... but the dealers sat inside and had a listen and said it was the fuel injection system kicking in, and it's a quirk common to 172/182 Clios. Can anyone else confirm?

Speed and acceleration are all very nice... only thing I noticed was a slight "juddering" when booting it, but I think it responds just as well to a slightly lighter foot and I think I may have been flooding the system at slightly too low revs. Would make sense.

I noticed the amber engine sign on the right of the dash kept slicking on and off every now and then... usually while cruise control was engaged... then dissappeared... is this a "quirk" too? The car seemed to be running fine with nothing to worry about... the light just kept flashing now and then. Odd.

Overall though i'm over the bloody moon... can't wait to go out and drive it again!

If someone had been averaging 21 MPG before you, they must have really been booting it

The button on the end of the wiper stalk selects the different displays on the trip computer. Just press the button on the dash to reset.

Engine warning light shouldn't come on, if it was me i'd be tempted to go back to the dealers and ask them to connect it up to a diagnostic computer to see if there are any faults listed. Although i think i recall other people mentioning the light flickering when using cruise control.

The judder you are feeling may just be traction control activating when you are booting it especially with roads being a bit slippy at this time of year. Although i think engine mounts can be a problem as well.

The whoosing noise is probably just induction noise. Mine does it as well.

If you keep your finger on the button on the wiper stalk when you turn the ignition on it goes into a diagnostic mode. Once in this mode, press the button to cycle through the display, one of the screens shows fault codes, i can't remember all the codes, but see if it contains things like t, h etc. If you see a screen that looks like ------- that will be the fault code screen without errors. If you do have an error press the reset on the dash, run the car for a few days and then check if the error comes back.

Here's a rather bad picture of mine taken on my phone not long after i got it.

Hehe thanks for the reply, looks eactly the same as mine! Really need ot give it a proepr wash and black polish though to get the marks out... i'll get some good astuff asap.

Regarding my quesitons, a guy on the Cliosport forums posted this in response:

Congrats on the purchase!

You say you filled up with 97 as a treat - most on here fill up with this or higher all the time, check the fuel filler cover - there should be a sticker stating 97 octane only! (At least they do high mpg on the motorways if you stick under 80!)

Reset the trip computer by pressing and holding the knob by the trip computer screen. If memory serves - press once to reset the last trip, twice to reset the lot.

The whooshing sound is normal, but as far as I know no-one has ever agreed a specific word to describe it! Should be due to the acustic valve in the induction system (can be removed).

Slight juddering might have been due to a lower grade petrol being in the car when you collected it? Should be smooth whether feathered or stamped on imo.

As for the engine light coming on - I've seen plenty of threads about random warning lights showing and some cars regularly light up like christmas trees. Run a search here to try and pin it down. I've had lights showing on mine due to a combination of excess cornering speeds and lowish brake fluid levels in the past.

So I guess the only thing which should concern me would possibly be the slight juddering... but I think a single trip with the car is hardly enough time ot accurately guage these things... and anyways, it's got 12-months warranty. :D

I think its meant to be run on 98 RON fuel or higher. Im sure that is what its says when you open the fuel cap. Most people run V-Power, Tesco 99 (I mainly use this as its the only petrol station where i live) or Sainsbury 97 RON. Some people swear that it runs rougher on 95 RON fuel and others swear that there is no difference. You should average 34 - 35 MPG in the winter (using climate a lot) and a little higher in the summer unless you really boot it everywhere.

I take it you have experienced the "5K Kick" now :D. I quite like how it turns from being quite quiet and reasonably civilised to having a sort of metallic type howl when you really boot it. Im not sure how an aftermarket exhaust will effect the sound but it seems to be the most cost effective way of replacing the exhaust when it finally rusts away. Have you seen the price of the Renault back box ? I personally think tuning a 182 is a waste of time, around £2K to get to 200 BHP or just over really doesn't seem worth it to me :(

By default they all sound a bit rough at idle so i wouldn't worry to much about that.

Have you checked for a 6 CD Changer, some people seem to think that it was standard in the 182 while others say that it was an option. Mine has one in the boot, others have them under one of the front seats.

I'd personally stick with the Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's which will cost you around £95 - £100 a corner.

Do you know about your auto wipers and auto headlights ?

Yeah the whole "which fuel" thing confuses me... some say it makes a difference other don't... personally I can't see 95 harming the engine so if I want to keep costs down a bit I will use it.

Yeah definately experienced the 5k kick... it really growls! Just took it for a quick spin down some great country backroads (Sussex is great for that) and when the revs climb the increase in pace is fantastic. I don't know if its me or what though but the low down revs in up to 3rd gear just seem a bit... sluggish until the "kick"? It's something I need to explore. Regarding the exhaust system I see many different types advertised like the stealth ones etc from Yozza, K-tec but to be honest i'll keep mine until it drops... has a great note to it, not too loud, and I like the Clio V6 twin exhaust style, I owuldn't want it completely hidden. People do say that a remap does make a noticeable difference, especially in lower revs, have you seen that DIY kit that's making a stir on the Cliosport forums at the moment? Looks pretty cool... and you can literally try as many different maps as you like, it's almost like flashing your GPU with different BIOS lol

RSTuner thread on CLiosport, lots of positive feedback http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=269238

As for CD changer... i'm afraid I can 100% confirm that I don't have one, but to be honest i'm glad of it, I would never use it anyway as I don't use CD's... so it would just take up valuable boot/underseat storage space imo. Besides, i'm going to buy this Parrot CD player with built-in BLuetooth, gets very very good reviews, just a shame it doesn't support DVD but oh well you can't have everything http://www.fonejuice.co.uk/products...ctcode=BTRBP&gclid=CMnOhIfo2pECFQUHEgodGH8pfg

EDIT - Wow sod that i'm getting this baby http://www.trustedreviews.com/multimedia/news/2007/09/13/Parrot-Makes-Ultimate-Head-Unit/p1 video here http://reviews.cnet.com/Parrot_RK8200_Bluetooth_Car_Stereo/4660-3424_7-6796584.html :D

I have disabled the auto-headlights option but am not sure how to do the wipers... do you know how to disable the auto on that mate?

Auto wipers is just one click down on the wiper stalk, with the speed being controlled by the twist on the same stalk. Two clicks down is intermediate and three clicks down is full wipers. I personally find the wipers on the 182 very poor. Had thought about the RSTuner kit, but im just going to leave it standard and buy something with a big turbo after i've had fun in the 182 for another year or so.

Yeah the wipers are a bit poo... didn't leave the screen as clear as i'd have liked to bew honest. They can be upgraded with better contact blades though right?

Congrats dude, I bet it's worlds apart from your old Vectra

I did consider the Clio 172/182 last July when I was hunting, but didn't get one because; A) they weren't anywhere near as bargainous as they are now and B) I don't fit in them very well.

I keep thinking I could sell my CTR for £7.5K and get one of these and spend the extra readies on beer, but I just don't fit properly (not a fatarse, just tall - 6'4")! Besides, I love my breadvan too much :D

When i bought mine i considered the Type-R as well, but it was really the case of getting an 04 /54 plate 182 or a 51/02 plate Type-R for the same money.
