Cypriate pounds

Yeah the Cypriot way of life is fantastic. I'm so lucky to have family there and property there, it makes escaping to heaven so much easier. Though usually I have to chase rent and do some boring legal stuff which is a bore to do in the Cypriot style. Oh and I had to pay to go to the family crypt! It's apparently a maintenance charge - they're cheeky ones - always able to find a quick buck, though they do do a good job, and take pride in their work most of the time. I just wish the ****ing Turks would get the **** out of there (though the Turkish Cypriots I have no issues with as they belong there too), and stop raping the land and ruining the north of the island with their shoddy, tacky overdevelopment. I always wish the Kurdish people would leave my island alone.

Thanks for giving Turkish cypriots your blessing. It makes me feel so much better knowing that we have your support, I feel as though I can live without worrying that I am being a burden on the island by using up vital oxygen which could have been better utilised by a greek cypriot.

It's a tragedy that things are so bitter, it was 34 years ago, will everyone (greek and turkish cypriot's included) just let it be and work together for peace. Some of my dad's best friends before the troubles were greek cypriot, we still visit them now on the south of the island. A man has posted in here to talk about going on holiday there and people just could no resist the temptation to drag this all up again, there was a war, there were troubles and people died and were raped and treated like dirt but for the sake of peace can we all just move on.

You should know by now that topics evolve - it is relevant. Let me tell you this, I am more than aware of the situation in Cyprus, in fact I am very much involved in it. I have many Turkish Cypriot friends and I see them regularly whenever in Cyprus.

Why are you throwing your toys out of the pram? I said I have no issues with Cypriots and I consider Cypriots not to be Greek or Turkish, but as their own entity, Cypriots are separate and independent. I was merely making the remark to save confusion and for the edification of others.

My grandfather dedicated his life to helping resolve the Cyprus issue, he was lambasted for it by the british government and made enemies on both sides in the early years after 1974. Though over a period of 10-15 years he managed to sort out a lot of the tears in the community - unfortunately he died over 20 years ago and his efforts and friends (ex presidents of both sides have passed away with him). They've started opening up the borders and letting people through things are getting easier. However until both sides agree to a fair conclusion it will keep on going. Turkey will never be allowed to join Europe whilst it has an illegal sanction, and until they start offering fair deals rather than ultimatums it's never going to happen. However the south has to start being less stubborn too. There was antagonism on both sides so they are not innocent either.

I'm all for a resolution, in fact I can't wait for one. Until then though the mainland Turks are ruining north Cyprus, building on every square inch of land it's just going to make the situation worse since this is not their land to build on and just gets the south's backs up - antagonising the situation further. One of the deals offered was that every bit of Turkish land should be given back, but any Greek land in the northern territory will be given back at 50% - not really fair is it? That is why they voted "Oxi" 3/4 years ago. It's a start though, at least they're talking. I was there when they opened the border for the first time - the emotions were amazing. Old friends that hadn't seen each other in years were arm in arm crying as though they had thought each other dead. It was a moving sight, along with a bit of aggression and anger - however all in all it was a positive and happy time.

This will carry on, I love Cyprus, I love the people the REAL Cypriots not people who are there to make a fast buck and to ruin the beautiful and wonderful unique place that Cyprus is.
