I know this isnt a Tomato firmware forum, but I'll post it anyway in case somebody has any knowledge they would like to share with me. :)

I am trying to set up my buffalo with the latest Tomato, and everything seems to work fine, expect I am unable to go out on the internet from anything routing through the buffalo.

My setup is as follows:

adsl -> netgear router -> powerline homeplug -> buffalo AP -> laptop (wired or wireless).

Some pointers:
* The netgear ADSL router is on 10.0.0.X where as the buffalo is on 192.16.8.1.x..
* The ethernet cable from netgear router is coming in on WAP port (tried LAN port, but even less success then)
* I can ping internet and local machines from tomato GUI
* I can ping all internal machines (10.0.0.x) from laptop
* I can ping buffalo AP on WAN IP (10.0.0.x) from server (on another homeplug)
* I have tried assigning LAN ips on 10.0.0.x aswell but it didnt like it at all then

Do you think the problem is something on the netgear router? Or do I need to do something on the buffalo in order for it to work?

Ok so you LAN is working?

does the router get an external IP - either static or dynamic?

where is your DNS pointing?

Yes, LAN appears to be working fine.

I am pretty sure I have tried both static and dynamic IPs for the router (WAN).
(edit: this is the buffalo AP)

I am not at home now, but the DNS has been left as default (0.0.0.0, I think). DNS works fine when ping'ing a domain on the AP (ping comes back fine).

I think the first question to get an answer to is which port should I connect the existing network to? LAN or WAN? I got far better results (as in LAN seemed to work better) when connecting the existing network on the WAN port, but I then ended up with an IP address of 10.0.0.X on the WAN port, and 192.168.1.X (so, two different ranges) on the LAN ports. If I changed the LAN ip to 10.0.0.x it would mess it up completely and I had to reset the buffalo.

I would like the IPs off the buffalo AP to be in the same range as the existing LAN, if possible.

to get the same range, plug in in the LAN port, they are a switch, remember to turn off dhcp so only one device is handing out IP addresses

mynsa: thanks, changing port, disabling the WAN port and disabling the DHCP server seems to have done the trick. :)
