Hi guys,

I have currently got an old BFG 8800 GTS 640MB, which is definitely not cutting games at 1920x1200 on max settings these days.

Therefore, I have just built a new system (see sig), and the only thing 'bottlenecking' it now, is the graphics card.

Really I am after a bit of advice please. I am looking for the best value high end graphics card. Has to be NVIDIA, not ATI. I am willing to spend up to around £300 inc VAT.

1. Is the 8800 Ultra much better than the 8800 GTX OC2?
2. And is it really worth waiting ages till March sometime for the 9800 GX2?

Thanks

Has to be Nvidia?. Well I can only suggest the second faster card to you then .

The Ultra can overclock faster than the GTX in Core, Memory and Shaders. So yes it's faster. Is it worth the premium?, I don't think so unless you can pick it up close to a GTX price.

Is it worth waiting?. Well that depends on how much the GX2 will be. The power requirements, the heat and availability of the card. I'd get the HD3870 X2 but as you're strangely wanting to keep to Nvidia when it's not the faster card then I'd have to suggest the GTX for that resolution even though I think you're insane for disregarding a manufacturer through brand loyalty :confused:.

I don't think I am that insane:eek:, I have a nForce motherboard (Striker II Formula), and ultimately want to take advantage of SLI, therefore I have to have NVIDIA cards by default.

Therefore, I think I'll go for the 8800 GTX OC2, and then think about getting a second one (maybe even a third one!) once I can afford one! lol:D

Personally, If you game at that res and you want the eye candy maxed out I'd get the OCUK 8800GTX for £226, overclock the core and shaders beyond the Ultra and pocket the £70+ you'd allocated towards maybe another card in the summer

It's £50 cheaper than the X2, not masses more than a GTS512 and miles cheaper than an Ultra, and the new Nvidia cards slated for March I'll believe it when I see it

:D

Well if you had stated that....... :p :D.

I think you should get a GTX to play games on just now and get two good 9xxx series cards when they come out. The sale of the GTX will get you some cash back also ;).
