Thinking of getting an iPhone...

Hi.
Ive had a N95-8Gb since its release, and love it.
But ive just gotten myself a 32Gb Touch and think its interface is great.

Now the four biggest flaws of the iPhone in my eyes were the lack of multiple recipients, MMS, poor text input and bad camera/camera related functions.

The multiple recipients has been fixed in the latest firmware, MMS i dont use much, but can be added with a 3rd party app, the poor text input isnt poor at all, its actually pretty good (going on how it is on my touch), and the camera thing doesnt bother me as i hardly use the camera on my N95 how it is.

Few questions though:
- Can the iPhone save email attachments?
- Whats the battery life like
- How much storage room is left on the 16Gb model? (for example, my 32Gb touch is actually 30Gb for storage).

Now, asuming i was to get one, whats the cheapest way to get it?
I could, as my contracts been up since september, sign a new £35 one with 02, but there arnt enough txts for me in that offer. So i'd ideally prefer a way to get more texts at around that price.
Theres also the option of getting an unlocked iPhone from somewhere then picking whatever tariff/operator i want.

Any ideas/suggestions/tips/advice?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Get an iphone from CPW (£330) then use ziphones to unlock it then put any sim you like in it. Job done.

I don't think all of these are flaws as we have 3rd apps for Multiple recipients and MMS. I think the txting is really gd! I do agree that the camera is bad....but who cares when you have a slr :)

Why are ppl pointing out the multiple recipients/MMS thing? I already know about that, i said in the OP!!! lol. :p.

Can it save attachments off emails? Because my touch cant?

no, there's no file explorer in the iPhone so saving attachments wouldn't be possible as you wouldn't be able to navigate to the files to open them

So no saving the pictures to the photo gallery?

Im wondering if the iPhone is a good idea for me at the moment. At least till the next version is out.

text input on the iPhone is awesome. You just need to resist the urge to correct your mistakes and It will correct them for you. It really is very hard to catch out.

ie predictive texting!;) Like every single phone on the planet has.

BoomAM Dont do it! I think you will regret getting the iphone it has far too many limitations. The rumours point to the iphone 2 coming out in May, which potentially with 3g and improvements might be worth the purchase.

PS In the mean time use the N95 8Gb and Joikuspot to share its HSDPA connection - that way you can use the N95's functionality and the best function of the touch/iphone - browsing the internet.:)

I'd say go the other way and get one. I had a Nokia N95 then TYTN II and got rid of them both last week to get an iPhone. I think its great. Dont miss Symbian or WM6 as much as I thought I would.

Hi. Its nothing like predictive texting. You can completely hit the wrong buttons left right and centre and it just knows and corrects it.

You wont regret buying an iPhone imho they are excellent devices.
Nothing has been said about the 3G iPhone as yet other than that there is going to be one some time in 2008.

Ill just flog mine on ebay and get a 3G one if i feel the need.

Well no thats why it is like predictive text ? Look at a phone number pad, one number shares 3 letters, whereas you're typing qwerty but each qwerty key has neighbours, so it works it out like that. Which essentially is a predictive text input algorithm modified sensibly to fit a qwerty pad. Its good they have done it but its not new, WinMo has has 3rd party stuff that is like this for years now... S60 not at all (but then they don't have any s60 touch phones yet :p).

Have to agree about the iPhone predictive text. It's is very good, much better than any others I have used.

Also, the iPhone keyboard is intuitive and learns typing patterns over a period of time so it knows what words you use most etc.

Actually its not, its really good. Im suprised MS havnt done this in the past for normal keyboards.
What happens is that if you want to type, for example, 'phone', even if you hit the keys around the ones you need to type 'phone' it'll still come up right.
So in theory, you could type in LJIBW and it'd still come up as phone.
Really impressive once you realise its happening. :p.
Typing emails on my touch is great because of it.

Im thinking of waiting for iPhone2 tbh. Not because of the 3g, but because maybe some other things will be upgraded/fixed on it and become native (like MMS).

that way you can use the N95's functionality and the best function of the touch/iphone - browsing the internet.:)
Whilst i like my N95, trust me, net browsing on the N95 doesnt compare to a touch, and i presume, the iPhone.

Ive decided.
Im gonna wait till iPhone2 comes out. :p
