I need to find the best deal around for my girlfriend's mother on a brand new Corsa. It must be brand new as she gets a 10% trade union/employer discount on the list price.

Vauxhall seem to be offering £1,000 trade in on any car so she may swap in a Ka that they have.

Looking for a 1.3 CDTi, 5 door, trim level negotiable but higher the better and will have metalic paint as an option.

Which new car brokers are worth looking at?

This is what I've found so far:

Corsa 1.3 diesel - 5 door car (1.3 CDTi ECOTEC - 4 diesel 1248cc)

£ 11275
- £ 1250 Trade Union Discount/ Suffolk CC Discount
- £ 1000 Eco Flex trade in price
+ £ 350 Metallic paint

Total £9375 on the road price. Can't get 0% finance on this deal

However Lookers of Birmingham offer the following for the same car

£11625 incl. met paint
- £ 1162 Trade Union Discount/Suffolk CC Discount
- £ 1000 Eco Flex Trade in price
- £ 1100 * Taking on the finance plan for 4 months

Total £8363 on the road with 6 months road tax. No 'Eco Flex' trade in then add another £1000 to the price.

* If you take on the Vauxhall Finance Plan you save a further £1500 off the new price. After 4 months pay it off then you incur charges of £400 but are £1100 better off. I believe you have to keep the finance plan open for 4 months.(?)

If she gets a 10% trade union deal on the list price she won't also get the discounted price from a broker!

You never get something for nothing unless the discount is an employee discount - all the trade union discount does is offer a pre-haggled price for the car, making most people think they are getting a good deal.

The 10% is probably worthless as you can get a bigger saving anyway.

The 10% discount applies alongside other promotions, she's checked with two dealers. Of course you'd need to check whether the same saving applies to brokers too.

The Corsa is pretty good, I've driven a few of them and would certainly recommend it.

try www.drivethedeal.com

once they get you in touch with the driver supplying the car at that price, drop it to the dealers you want your employee discount on top and see what they say
