Hey all,

I'm experiencing a very odd problem - whenever I use Steam and I'm downloading anything (update, demo, trailers etc.), I am never able to use the internet to do anything else.

So whilst Steam is up, if I open the Internet Explorer, I get the "Page can not be displayed" message.

Anyone else experience this or know a fix?

Thanks,
Marky

Might just be using all of your bandwidth, if its using so much that its taking ages to load the page, it might be timing out? chances are im talking out my arse right enough. try capping the download limit and steam and see if it helps.

I don't think so because when I use Steam and try to load a web page, it goes immediately to the "Page cannot be displayed" message (I.e. It doesnt even look like it's trying to load at all) :(

IE's not in offline mode is it?

Hmm perhaps not, IE7 tells you it's in offline mode :(

Nope just checked - however I came across a genius thought :p
I run the Network Diagnositic Tool in IE7 and it restored the internet connection.

I am now typing this as I download the demo of Audiosurf :D Thanks for the help guys ;)

i had the same issue at my old house, yet in my new house with the same ISP and everything else setup the same it doesnt happen.

Steam has done this to me for more than a year. Its strange that steam based apps still have net access isn't it?

To fix it the manual way;
go to control panel;
Administrative tools;
services.

look at the list and find 'DHCP Client' right click and select restart.
find 'DNS Client' and restart that as well.
Give it 30-60 seconds and try to run another net based app, it should work!
