List me some bands people. I say metal but anything with technical talent is fine. I just can't stand screaming. They have a great song and IMO ruin it with the screaming.

Liquid Tension Experiment
An Endless Sporadic
Breaking Benjamin
Between the Buried and Me - So good I can just put up with the screaming
Death From Above 1979

All great stuff. So list me some bands people.

BTW expect more of these threads from me for different Genres.

Hmm you are leaving yourself quite open to the 'shred' guitar genre there.

Two major players which are loved and loathed (much like the genre itself) are:

Steve Vai: In particular check out 'Bad Horsie' and 'Kill the guy with the ball'.

Joe Satriani: Not sure how metal you would put satch, but check out 'Surfing with the Alien' and 'The Extremist' amongst others.

Far more 'metal' technical instrumentals like with 80's freak shows like 'Racer X'. Check out 'Scarified', 'Technical Difficulties' and 'Viking Kong' and prepare to air guitar!

Just remember to leave your taste locked well away in the cuboard ;)

Got both of these guys albums. I am really open so feel free to go nuts.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Will have a listen tomorrow.

Steve Vai - Passion and Warfare is an excellent album.

Dream Theater have a lot of technical talent and don't scream.

Ones that haven't been mentioned in the thread would be great lol.

Opeth. I listened to a couple of songs on their myspace today and one of them went in pretty heavy with some screaming. Need to know if this is how most of there albums are or if it was a one off.

DT hadn't been mentioned, and you didn't specifically mention what Steve Vai albums you had. Sorry, I guess. :/

Under no circumstances ever buy this album. Its so dated its embarrissing. Its the word 'cringe', transformed into music.

In all fairness I didn't mention that album :P

Eh, I enjoyed it.

Actually that was my bad. I mentioned LTE but forgot DT. Sorry dude.

BUY? OK people. I spend £20 on a ticket to go see bands live. That's enough for them. Spending £150 for a download ticket :p

Symphony X
Opeth
Dream Theater
Circus Maximus
Marco Sfogli (I highly recommend him)
John Petrucci's solo album
Nevermore
Dimmu Borgir (Vortex can sing quite well, Shagrath has a tasteful grown as well)
Porcupine Tree :) (Even though they are not "really" metal)
Edit - Check out Jason Becker's stuff as well. He was amazing at the guitar.

I'll think of more

A lot of the bands names are sounding metal. Which is great as it's OT. But if anyone wants to suggest stuff like Death From Above (really loving them), An Endless Sporadic etc then go nuts.

But so far everyone has mentioned good stuff (well I will find out tomorrow).

Try and get into some Opeth, like yourself I'm not into growling/screaming either but Opeth use it so tastefully that it's very easy to get into it.

Just got back from seeing Between the Buried and Me, and Dillinger Escape Plan tonight, :D

Nevermore - some screaming but the clean vocals are sublime
Opeth - again some death metal but a lot of clean. if you really can't stand the screaming then get Damnation as its all clean vocals.
In Flames - Some screaming but plenty of clean
36 Crazyfists - Brilliant clean vocals mixed up with the odd bit of screaming.
Iron Maiden - no description needed
Porcupine Tree - just amazing, everyone should try them out.
Pitchshifter - Unusual vocals but they are my favorite band so I should pimp them as much as I can
Killswitch Engage - plenty of clean vocals in there.
Pure Reason Revolution - not metal at all but they are brilliant and definitely worth checking out.

King Diamond!

One of the best metal vocalists from a technical standpoint, though I'll not lie - you'll have to be rather open-minded about the cheesy horror eighties theatrics. He is, to my knowledge, the only metal artist who's written songs about possessed grandmothers and cups of tea [other than, perhaps, Lawnmower Deth]. Brilliantly daft.

You'll either love it or hate it. If it means anything, Jay and Silent Bob love it :D

Ooh, hang on - when you say you hate 'screaming', does that include high-pitched falsetto? If so, then disregard my entire post :D

 Love BTBAM. I take it they played Selkies? What was their setlist? Paul Waggoner is bosh.

Na no Selkies, I'm not very knowledgeable about their music to be honest, they played Ants of the Sky, Prequel to the Sequel, I recognised all of the others (all from Colours and Alaska) apart from one which was off the Silent Circus apparently.

Not really metal in the traditional sense but you might like to check out Apocalyptica. They basically mix orchestral sounds with heavy guitars etc. Came to fame via Metallica covers, but my favourite track is Hope:
