Hi,

Anyone done a headgasket change on a 306 diesel before? Been offered a 306 for free which the headgasket gone and is overheating. I am thinking of quite easy money here.

Depends if the head is warped and if it needs skimming on how much it'll cost.

I warped mine so replaced the engine, as a replacement engine (fitted myself), plus timing kit (done by garage) cost less than it would have to get the old engine fixed. :)

Hi saitrix,

Most people on pug306.net ( I hate calling Peugeot's PUG's  ) also say its cheaper to drop in a replacement engine,

Theres a reason mechanics dont like french cars and peugeot are mainly to blame.

At one point we considered simply refusing to work on them its a very time consuming and awkward job depending on engine.

Aye going to take it and break it I think. Should be good fun anyways. Once I know more about the car I will make a thread on here seeing if anyone wants certain parts.

I wouldn't call doing anything on a 306 fun. The only experience I had of working on one was reomoving the rad and that was a total nightmare. Took me half a day just to remove the old one!

Its not too bad a job, but would be a bit more awkward on the floor i reckon. Drop off the downpipe, rip off the intercooler and fuel pipes and make sure you have a burly mate present to help you lift the head off complete with turbo etc. Get it skimmed and a gasket set (always use quality gaskets on the turbo) and bobs your mothers brother...
