For an instrumental album, you might want to check out The Machinations Of Dementia by Blotted Science. Sort of like Liquid Tension Experiment, but heavier, more edgy and somewhat darker (I would say); the type of music that begs for the volume to be turned up.
Also for female vocals, check out Aghora. Check both their albums Aghora and Formless.
Because they are, like, so alternative.Why can't metal bands have normal names, like Girls Aloud etc lol
Quick check of formless and it's got a few tracks that make me think of Ozric Tentacles (and a bit Red Snapper too). Although there's something about her voice that makes me think she's singing flat or something..
Soil, Disturbed, some Cold, there's Silent Civilian (Johnny Santos from Spineshanks new band) which might be too 'screamy' for you but I'd say he more barks the verses out and nearly all the chorus are sung, plenty of decent guitar work on it too.
