since i was 12 ive wanted modified car, absolutely loved cars getting magazines every week ect...

then i turned 16 and got myself a aprilia rs50 (still liking cars) i crashed my bike within 2 hours of riding ! BAD IDEA ! smashed my ankle and wasn't riding again for 5 months. i got straight back on my bike the day i got plaster off.

then i turned 17....i thought this is it moment ive been waiting for, i had 1 lesson hated it.....2nd lesson hated it.....EVERY lesson i hated, so i gave it up.....by this time i fell in love with my bike, thats all i wanted bikes bikes bikes.

but im 18 now, my bike license has ended on my bike and im getting older and theres needs i need....LIKE A BOOT and passenger seats :) so im in my thinking seat now

i did do 9 lessons of a car....could drive perfect but couldn't use clutch for a toffee as im heavy footed....and to used to a bike....

me and my mate are always talking about which we prefer bike or car...i cant decide...my mate has a car and a bike....he says he loves his bike more but i cant decide :(

so do you have a bike ?
do you have a car
maybe both ?
which do you like more ?

Dont know why i made a thread put hell with it :)

cheers

EDIT: sorry i think this should have gone in motors, i suppose its general though aswel :p

Well...

I don't have a Bike
I have a Car
Both would be nice, but after some horror stories about people not paying attention to bikers, and the fact that i'm happy with a car, i'll settle for what I know best :)
Prefer a car, can't fall off it, extra space, just general preference really :)

You said you hated driving lessons, what particular aspect of it did you dislike?

Worse crashes in cars which is a fact. More people die in car crashes. cant get trapped in a bike ;)
i only crashed because i, in the real world broke the law as your not suppose to drive or ride 24hours after you pass your test (not sure if its the law actually) which is also common sense :p...passed my test....went straight out in puring down rain and at night time....plus i passed my test on a scooter, i had a bike :) i have Awesome excuses :p

Was learning in a 06 Corsa my lord there huge :( hated it :( that could be one reason, i like small cars, old saxo or fiesta
(im only a small guy hate them huge dashboards).

and also i could not handle the clutch as i previously stated :( but i can say i do WISH i could learn the clutch properly, and wish i liked lessons

I think you need to give it some more time, in my thoughts. If you're coming from a bike, learning again from the get go is tough, re-learning something you already know, but in such a different way.

You're not the first and you sure as hell won't be the last person to struggle with the clutch, just stick with it and don't TRY to learn it, it'll come to you in time. if you're happy with the bike, thats all good, but if you do wanna learn to drive a car, just give it time, forcing, worrying, getting peed off about not being able to do something after x amount of lessons won't help at all.

Maybe find a local teacher who uses a slightly smaller car, too, if you're finding the current car too large, but after a bike, it'll feel massive no matter what, really.

Hope you can come to a good informed decision on it :)

yeh i might have a look around to see if theres any learners with a smaller care tbh

real bikes have clutches too... so you're gonna have to learn sooner or later.

Read Properly

plus i passed my test on a scooter, i had a bike:)

RS50 Do some research....proper bike...6 gears...

I remember having loads of problems with the clutch when I was learning to drive.......oh so long ago now :D but my instructor, who otherwise was a total moron, told me that I should always use the clutch with my heel off the floor. That solved the heavy-footed clutch issue for me. A pity it took him three lessons to tell me, the old spanner.

My only transport is my Fazer 1000.

It's great, but it's rubbish. I've got a cold again, I can't buy anything big, I can only give my girlfriend lifts, basically no one else, and at this time of year it's so cold on the bike and wet.

It's awesome in summer, but crap in winter.

Did my bike test at 17 loved it and still do
Did my car test at 18 loved that aswell but still dont need a car, a bike is nearly always going to be more fun, but as you said you have to prioritise things, like having boot and taking more than 1 passengers, if that outweighs the fun factor then its only obvious to have a car :p

I had just a car originally, then both, then just a bike, then both again and now I'm back to just a car. For a while I didn't need a car because of where I was living and working so the car kind of became redundant. I had a scooter though and you can really load it up with luggage which you can't on a bike. I have carried some or all of the following on a scooter which I wouldn't have been able to do on a full framed bike: car engine block, car body panels, gears, car wheels and tyres, computers, pushbike, wooden panels. A car would have been much easier though because for some stuff I used to rely on mates and favours.

The thing is, when I was stuck with just a bike we were limited how far we could go and had to get public transport to go any distance. Also after a number of years I decided that because I was injury free, even though I loved riding it might be a good time to call it quits before the inevitable happened.

Some things to think about anyway.

I have both.

The Bike gets used 95% of the time, even in winter. I just hate congestion to be honest. Car gets used when I need to transport big stuff, or arrive at a meeting in a suit (which is rare), otherwise the bike gets used for business too.

Main difference for me is the car is practical transport, but I actually love the bike. Power is very addictive and I cant afford the £100K for a comparable amount on 4 wheels! Even if I could I'd still have the bike aswell because its just more rewarding.

I wouldnt want to be totally without a car though - they come in handy every now and again :)

I've just switched from car to bike prior to my RTW, and even though I've so far only driven a bike in the winter I must say I'm enjoying it!
But if I wasn't doing my RTW, and I had to choose between having a car or having a bike, I'd have to go for the car just for practicality

If the clutch on a car is an issue why don't you just drive automatics?

I just have a car and that's what I prefer, much more convenient and I'd feel too vulnerable on a bike.
