Hi Guys,

Well its that time of year again when ive gotta start thinking about a birthday present, ive got 3 months to plan it out so i want to get it right.

Id like a new gfx card, whats the best one around at the min? 8800GT? 3870?
Heard a lot of people raving about the new 8800GT range?

Id like it to be really something special if possible.

Thanks guys

Jas

Ask them to give you £200 instead and wait for the new cards, could possibly pick youself an 8800GTS, 3870X2 or possibly a 9600GT at the lower end.

The best card out at the moment is probably the 3870X2 from ATI - The 9800 series is being released by Nvidia in March - at the moment, it's not neccessarily known how well they perform, some people say they are 30%-50% better than the 8800 Ultra, but some people are saying they are just two 8800GTS cards stuck together.
We'll find out more performance specs within the next few weeks.

However, if your birthday is 3 months away, wait 3 months :p The graphics card industry changes every week it seems, and in 3 months we could be seeing another ATI/Nvidia card.

just so you know, will probably around the £400 price mark... if that helps

Oh... well, in that case wait abit, plenty of money there to get 1 or even 2 graphics cards, another 70 quid on top of that could get you 2x 3870X2 :p.

I would wait until a day of two before your birthday and see what new out as the next gen might be out or close to it with luck and current cards will be a lot cheaper as well and it depends on your system and res you play at.

Yeh, im hoping the 9 series will be out and rocks, cos that would just answer all my problems, hopefully will fall in my price range too

A week before your birthday start a new thread and state your system and what res you run at and what price your got to spend and even what games you play.

I predict your CPU will be abit of a bottleneck, you might want to consider replacing that aswell.

Yeh i suppose your right, i want the best i can get, but at the same time i would like to plan it a bit so it isnt a rushed buy if you know what i mean.

I'd like to get a card that i can max out the settings on Flight Sim X (i know not a popular game here but i do like it) at the min my X1950 Pro 512 wont quite do it, so i think an 8800 would do it quite easily.

Would also be nice to wack the settings up on Crysis....

I play both flight sim and crysis on max settings with an 8800GT OC 512MB;)

I recommend it. but i would wait a while as the 9 series could be very good, and if its not, im sure the 8800GT would have gone down in price again by then.

Mines went down about £40-50 since i bought it :(
