If you could change 5 things about the UK what would it be?

1. Immigration = Massively curtail.
2. Benefits = 6 months then you have to get a job, if you can't find one then you are "given" one. No work No Money.
3. Transport = Put their money where their mouth is and invest hugely in public transport.
4. Build more Prisons = Self explanatory.
5. Ring fenced taxation = Especially "green" taxes, money should actually go on reducing pollution.

1. Build a 20 ft. wall around the UK to stop the immigrants
2. Build lots brothels so's piracy increases
3. Shoot all chavs (speaks for itself this one)
4. Flatten all major cities and grow forests in their place (Cities-They're big they're full of crime and they're a general annoyance)
5. All UK citizens should have to pay a National Capn' $qu!ff contribution

1) Devolve control over everything except foreign policy and defence to the Scottish Parliament.

2) Upgrade the Welsh Assembly to a Welsh Parliament with equal powers to the Scottish Parliament.

3) Upgrade the Northern Ireland Assembly to a Northern Ireland Parliament with equal powers to the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Parliament.

4) Reform the House of Commons into an English Parliament with equal powers to the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Parliament and Northern Ireland Parliament.

5) Reform the House of Lords into a British Federal Parliament with control over foreign policy and defence.

The job's a good'un. :)

See my first one would be to scrap devolution, wind up the Welsh Assembly/Scottish Parliament and return power to Westminster.

Removal of the scottish, welsh, NI parliments and restoring powers to Westminster. (sorry haiku) ;)

Nothing would more surely and irreversibly lead to the disintegration of the country. Which I don't suppose is your intention.

a) St George's day WILL be celebrated. You WILL stand for the anthem and enjoy walking down the street seeing St George's crosses everywhere on a total day off with some sort of public celebration.

That will go down well in places like Swansea and Aberdeen. :p

good god no, welsh is already compulsory at most places, from primary school and all it does it screw up your english,

lol Coming from someone who lives in Manchester. Its our language, enough of our culture has been taken from us.

We'll keep it thanks.

1 – no immigration, at all
2 – become England, and screw the EU & UK (close borders)
3 – unemployed, non-English – deported no questions
4 – bigger, better army
5 – remove royal family

All of that would solve 95% of this countries problems FACT

personally I think the segregation of governments is leading to the disintegration of uk as a whole, we've certainly given alex sammond to much power. Its a system that has worked for a long time why they choose to change I'll never know.

Good post Voltar you out some real thought into that and its appreciated its really interesting to read everyone views especially as you see the same issues popping up again and again. Even squiffs post was fairly interesting however i'd like to see squiff heavily taxed on his contribution policy...

keep em coming

1) Legalise (and, more importantly, tax) drugs

2) Tax the rich more

3) Close grammar, private, and faith schools

4) Spend far more on public transport

5) More (yes, more) integration with Europe

Well thank god you arnt in charge then, i wholeheatidly disagree with every point you make.

1) Legalising drugs would be an absolutely appauling idea, if anything i think laws surrounding them should be tightened massively. If taxed and readily available we would see an absolutely huge increase in usage. The fact that they are illegal plants a message into most people's brains and prevents them from using, legalising would send completely the wrong message and would encourage use by the majority people who see legal and illegal as black and white. Even canabis is a very powerful drug and i have personally seen people's lives ruined by it.

2) Make it even less attractive for us who actually bother to make a success of our lives to do so? Jog on. You do realise that income tax is at 40% yeah? combined with an additional 17.5% VAT burden on new items, how is that not already unfair? Then we have huge rates of stamp duty on every property you buy, huge fuel duty, tax on savings and investments.

3) CLOSE GRAMMER AND PRIVATE schools, are you insane? First off private schools are exactly that, private, so you need have no opinion on them, but why in gods name would you want to close grammar schools, the whole point is that they give the children with a brain half a chance, away from the children who wish not to bother.

4) I dont use public transport, never have, never will, never known anyone that has or does, other than railways commuting into central london which are private companies anyway. I would be dead against my tax money going into some form of national transport system.

5) EUROPE? I feel that this country is already losing its identity enough, i like europe and i have nothing against europeans, but this is our country, and while i wont pretend to understand the economics of the idea, i like our separation, i like our imperial systems, i like our currency - i dont want to be a part of the united states of europe.

Although I agree with the majority of your post Jez, I do think more needs to be spent on public transport, I think its a vital part of our society and a necessity. If it was nationalized again may be this would solve it.

1 - Government needs to stop trying to come up with blanket ideas for immigration when they should actually be dealing with the ACTUAL problem in hand.

2 - More protection for female immigration/housing officers with immigrants. My mother nearly got the absolute **** kicked out of her not long ago by a member of the Kurdish Mafia.

3 - Stop Politicians taking payouts and throw it into the NHS instead. I have serious issues with the NHS at present.

4 - Take Gordon Browns head, shove it so far up his anus that he spends the rest of his sad, cheating life eating his tonsils.

5 - "Make poverty history" - Frank Gallagher :D

I have never lived in an area which has been served by it really, so it has passed me by, as it has my friends. Always lived in fairly countrified locations with say 1 bus which comes once an hour and takes an hour to get anywhere which you could drive to in 10mins! :)

To be honest that point is one i dont feel strongly on one way or another, the other points actually raised my blood pressure slightly though! Tax more, as if 40% basic income tax plus all additional taxes isnt enough :( It feels like you are being milked dry. That and the ridiculous drugs suggestion.

The old system was changed because it was generating resentment between the nations. Just as the current form of "asymmetric devolution" is doing the same. The only way to stop it would be to implement a system of symmetric devolution (federalism), as I suggested above. Rolling back the clock would only weaken things even further.
