**Car or Motorbike** Argggh

Gah, automatics, no chance :(, dear in insurance arnt they ? and not exactly good in any sense for a 18 year old :).

i just Loved going out on my bike, to bad i cant afford a bigger one and to take my test, MV Agusta is my future ;).

i just dont know about a car yet, still wondering and thinking, i know sooner or later im gonna have to get one.

I have both. Love to get out on the bike at the weekend (i.e. I can't wait for the weekends to have a rake up the Antrim Coast - due to me working Mon - Fri in Dublin and the bike home in Carrickfergus in the north). For Friday and Saturday nights and a lot more times the car is the perfect soloution, so I can take passengers...

I would say my bike has never been used for anything other than fun yet, but I guess that will all change when I'm back at uni in September and I have to commute as my brother will be using his car (whom I am insured on) for going to work.

Can't wait for the weekend to take the brakes apart on the bike and give it an all out clean :D

'cos it doesn't take very long? That's why I like cleaning my bike!

:o obviously not cleaning it properly then :p

I can take a whole day nearly properly cleaning and protecting mine lol, and thats without bringing out the metal polish :p

I have both. They're both very different. A thrill you get from driving a bike and the thrill you get from a car are uniquie to themselves. Obviously I would have to choose a car over a bike for practicality but I would like to think that I would continue to own both.

Go and do the driving lessons. Getting out on the road after you have that license in your hand is much more different and free when you don't have an instructor looking over you.

Both. Best of both worlds. I can't live without either.

yea this is the way to go, I have both, I love using the bike when the weathers not too cold at the moment, it is a LOT of fun and gives you a sense of freedom and control you just dont get from a car, plus if your going somewhere where you know your friends will try and blag lifts off you and you dont want them to you can just take the bike ;) :p, saying that I couldnt do without my car either, the protection from the elements, ease of use and big boot all make it a must for me to have both.

*Just read that back to myself and it sounds as though it has been typed by a handicapped 12 yr old :(*

Also, it doesnt have to be 'that' expensive either, im only 19 and dont have too much trouble at all running both.

I am lucky enough to have both

Bike is far more fun but the practicality of a car can't be beaten.
As you have to do a test no matter what (you said your bike license has expired) I would go for the car test and buy a car, then do your bike test in 2 years time.

By that time bike insurance will be much cheaper and you can pick up something cheap to have a bit of fun on.

Yea as said before I again have a bike and car much prefer the bike as its allot more fun but not always practical , dare i say it you should get the car thats the sensible option.

Bike test I found allot harder than the car test you need allot more attension and the lessons are allot more expensive remember spending about £700 on my bike license (lessons and test)
alough the car was about £300 or so on lessons.

The sensible option would be the car, and this time of year I couldn't live without it, although the bikes are a hell of allot of fun.

Dont agree with anyone that says cars are more safer, when i think they both have there fair share....only unsafe if you personally make them unsafe.

Yep you just have to watch out for the nutters on the road no matter what you are driving.

Drive like everyone else is out to kill you and you should be OK

so do you have a bike ?
do you have a car
maybe both ?
which do you like more ?

Yes I have a bike - an 06 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (my first bike).
Yes I have a car - a Ford Mondeo ST24 (love the V6 growl).
Yes, both :)
Horses for courses, if that's the correct phrase(?), I have the bike for speed fixes and get a lot of enjoyment for just riding it, it's also nice to pass long queues of stationary traffic :D
The car, well, that's comfort and convenience, I still enjoy driving it but tend to cruise around (not in a maccy Ds chav way - I mean taking it easy), but if it's good biking weather (not slashing down) it gets left on the drive.

Not much help to you I guess, you should get what you can and what you like.

Personally I think an interest in car modification at such a young age could potentially lead you down a long path of debt with no chance of ever recouping the money - I'm sure you have seen the countless adverts for people selling their own motors with often tens of thousands spent, at a fraction of that.

Scort.

Go for both, its the way forward. If i only had one choice I would need to pick the car, just for practicality of space, passengers, boot, warm, etc. The bike is great for the weekend and commuting but I couldn't make it a full time thing. Lest with both you get nice cheap limited millage insurance.

Cars all the way... never really fancied a bike, plus the missus would never let me have one!

Not for nothing the ambulance service call motorbike riders 'organ donors'... True, you can't get trapped in a bike, but you've only got 1mm of leather between you and impending doom.. Curtain airbags all the way!

Usually more like 1.3mm as a minimum ;) . And even 1mm of Kangaroo leather is very resistant indeed.

As for air bags http://www.dainese.com/eng/d-air.asp

i personally feel safer on a bike, easily swerve outta the way and the bike is basically you, and thats what i love.

but thats my opinion obviously.
