Fair price for a 02 e46 m3?

Its a shame, but completely understandable, about how that happens with the 'chav' element yeah.

I bought mine cause they had just dipped into 'blimey thats a lot of car for that kind of money' territory, but unfortunately along with that comes the ability for a lot of people to now afford them.

Luckily the e92 M3 hasnt taken off in any way shape or form (yet) and i guess that will at least give the e46 a bit of a breather before it heads into neon light and 'ice' territory.

For the moment though - its one heck of a (pricey to run) car ;)

They are everywhere, well not everywhere, but not exactly rare to see! They seem to be selling thick and fast

They are not, becuase BMW are only importing a certain amount and there is a waiting list. This is restricting supply of E92 M3's. They are not everywhere...

.... yet.

They have failed to take off in the way bmw hoped them to .... they arent shifting and theres talks of a price reduction to 45k very soon.

.... the e46 m3 sold like absolute hot cakes on release, and even up to a year after release, finding one for sale was a hard task. Not so with the new version what with the current financial and 'eco' concerns of a lot of people..... people on m3 forums are getting dealers ringing them up to try and offload them, and theres plenty around to buy.

Yet is in fact now!

They are not selling in anywhere like the numbers hoped and their are plenty of E92 M3's in the network both new and used. There are also rumours which I don't subscribe to that BMW are about to adjust the price.

I'd go so far as to use the word 'disasterous' to describe the arrival of the E92 M3, in sales terms. Not what we're used to with the premium 3-er, and certainly nothing like how things were when the E46 M3 hit the streets.

"Waiting Lists" - well, maybe for the MDCT version that is arriving soon. Let's see how that one sells when we start seeing them in four or so months.

Ah, how does this differ from SMG? Or is it just the latest revision of it?

Well SMG was usually[1] just a regular H-pattern manual gearbox with additional hydraulic based hardware bolted on which would perform the shifts.

The dual-clutch gearboxes are essentially two gearboxes in one physical housing, with one shaft for the odd gears and another for the even gears, so the 'next predicted' gear can be pre-selected. Supposedly smoother and quicker shift times.

[1] I say "usually" because the E60 M5 & E63 M6 had specially developed 7-speed SMG gearboxes rather than utilizing an existing H-pattern design, but still a single-clutch design.
