I've been taking a look around the Vodafone site when I came accross some "Refurbished" units they are selling.
They seem to be nicely priced.
Example being the SE K850i which was one phone I was considering.

On an 18 month contract, it would cost me £60 for the phone on a £25 per month (150mins, 500 text) contract.
Or £150 for the phone on an 18 month, £25 per month (500mins, unlimited text).

If however I went the refurbished option I could get the 18 month, 500min/Unlimited Text contract and the handset for free.

I know what "refurbished" actually means, however has anyone actually bought this before?
Does the phone "look new" or is there the chances of knocks/scratches etc?

I've had a few refurbished handsets on O2 and they all looked brand new. They came in generic O2 packaging though with only a charger.

Hi Stoofa,

Refurbished handset are just phones that people have returned to Vodafone. As we can't re-sell a phone as "new" once it's been sent to a customer we have to brand it as "refurbished."

Please bare in mind that customers only have 14days to return the handset so they don't have any damage caused by long term use and are unlikely to be scratched or knocked.

All handset returned are fully examined to make sure that they work and if any thing was to go wrong with the device it will be covered under the same warranty as if a brand new handset. The handsets are also covered by the 14day return policy on them so if you weren't totally happy with the device you could always return it and get another or cancel the contract.

Hope you manage to find a phone you like.

Thank you kindly for your response.
Out of interest - what do think is the best of the phones currently available on Vodafone?

I'm currently a K800i owner and I've been happy enough with the handset.
I don't need the phone to do "everything" - I have an iPod Nano for music, a PDA for Sat Nav etc.
So as long as it's a good phone, has a fair camera and allows me to get cinema listings from online I'm happy :)

It just seems that whenever I think I've made the decision I go and read a bad review.
The SE K850i
&
Nokia 6500 Classic

These were two handsets I was looking at - any opinions on these?

Thanks again.

My vodafone refurbishment (K750i) came flashed as a W800, so there might be a difference :D

Though it didnt bother me and until the joystick failed (2.5 +yrs later) I didnt have a single problem.

Hi stoofa,

Both the phones you've listed are ideal for what you want to do with your handset.
The Nokia 6500 is the smaller and more traditional of the two, and comes with 1GB of internal memory which will be helpful for storing your pictures.
The 2MP camera is really underpowered compared to the 5MP camera of the SonyEricsson K850i though, and the internet will be quicker on the K850i too as it has HSDPA as well as 3G (the 6500 only has 3G.)

I hope this have given you food for thought,

Just out of interest, I've seen people here and on another forum posting as their nick and then "Vodafone UK". Is this something that Vodafone are encouraging amoungst staff?
