So, ive managed to leave the only Key from my car in the ignition and ive gone and locked the door! HELP! How can i open the door, i dont want to smash the window and a locksmith will be my last resort! Its a MK3 Golf.

Some tape from a banding machine , feed through gap by door & pillar, loop around door lock & pull.

(Complete guess if this will work with a Golf, the above used to work with an old Mk2 Cavalier! though!:D )

Phone local breakers yards to price up replacement glass, phone locksmith for quote, if the locksmith's price > window glass price, then get your hammer out. ;)

Maybe like I did, hit the locking switch on the dash and get out leaving the keys in the ignition. Bit of long wire with a hook on the end later and keys were out. Can confirm this works on renault 19 and a daewoooooooo matiz.

Yup, RAC should sort you out too.

Apparently the recovery services can open the door by using some inflatable device.

LOL!

LOL!

You could try prising the door open and slipping something through the gap to catch the door knob and pull it up. Very difficult to do though.

I'm not sure if it works on Golfs but if you can take off the rear numberplate light and put some power through the socket that it can give power to the car, which may unlock it.

cut a tennis ball in half. place it over the lock and hit it with a hammer.

works with older cars that have central locking. well it did for me..

Had the same issue with a '93 Vento, would constantly lock it's self - was told by the recovery guy it's a common fault on aging VW Central Locking (of course may or may not be true).

Worked out cheaper to just get a new set of keys/barrels :p

i did this, my clifford alarm locks after 30 seconds or so. Got mum to bring the spare keys in ;)

But i know 2 others who have also one it, one went to the local pub and got a hammer. The other got the RAC out who bent the top of the door and unlocked it that way.

Is that not the exact same thing?

Err, no not really. Hitting it with a hammer is one blow, or a continuous series of slower blows.

Pumping it with your hand will generate the pressure quicker. Who in there right mind would purposely aim a hammer at there pride and joy and risk denting / scratching it?

Anyhow, hope you get it sorted.

Well, just got back from work and it still aint open. A lad came from work to try and open it for me but only managed to scrape a little paint off the window frame :(. We are with the RAc so hopefully they can come and open it. Also, it was late last night, i wanted to get in and go to bed and i was grabbing everything out of my car including my Sat Nav, phone, house keys etc, but in the thumble managed to forget my wallet and Key...in the Ignition!
