ok could a passing mod change this to a poll at all??

Would you drop a 1.8 20v Turbo lump in a Mk2 Golf. or the VR6 Lump???

i have now found a VR6 lump with everything i need. but im so torn between the awesome sounding VR6 and the power of the 1.8 turbo :(

i know i have a thread like this about a vr6 conversion, but would like this as a poll discussing the 2 and the differences

1.8T aslong as it has the KO4 turbo, with a map to about 260bhp. Awsome power.

A VR6 would be tempting though as would sound amazingly awsome.

1.8T. Won't the VR6 lump make the car nose heavy, not to mention being a pain to work on in that tiny engine bay?

(not a mechanic, all advice 'sold as seen')

No technical input whatsoever, but the VR6 lump does sound lovely. Plently of pwer as standard too, iirc around 190-200bhp.

It is totally up to you and the values you want from the car. If once you have made it you decide you are bored with 200-220 bhp and want to jack it up somewhat a turbo is the key, no expensive rebuilds, just bolt on power. If you will be happy with 200-220bhp forevermore a vr6 is the better option imo, NA means no turbo lag and less of a "thrashy" power delivery.
Personally i would go for a turbo, because you are a man, and like the rest of us we get bored easily!

VR6 all the way. It's both a better engine and a cheaper, easier swap. Not only that but further down the line, you can bolt on a blower or turbot for 300bhp.

VR6 seems to be more popular at the moment.

thanks for all the comments. keep em coming. i've been offered

ECU & Wiring Loom
Twin Fans / Radiator
Complete Engine Block
Gearbox & Driveshafts
Brake Pedal Cluster
Subframe / Wishbones
Power Steering Rack & Steering Column
5 Stud Hub Carriers & 280mm Brakes
Rear Beam / Brakes / 5 Stud Hubs
Fuel Tank & Hoses

all from the VR6 mk3 for £500 which seems a dam good deal to me. engine has done 140k though

Stinky - I told you in your other thread that a guy on Retro-rides.com has an entire Sharan VR6 for sale for £500!

Take what you need, break the rest and sell it on ebay then cube the shell and you could come out having paid £0 for your engine!

It's the 2.9 too!
