Hi Guys,

I've been out of the loop for a year soon. Working lots, being abroad, getting married and all what comes with growing up ;)

Some time back there where intense debates in here and other places about the merits of DX10, and the amazing impact it would have on games. Cue NV vs ATI flame wars and so on :D

Has DX10 actually picked up?
I'm getting a new system in the spring. All new ATI/NV upper end cards support both DX9 and DX10 I presume?

Any pitfalls to look out for when deciding on the new card?

The 8800GT look like great value. My last card was a X1800XT512mb. Love the ATI image quality. The 3700 series is getting good reviews from buyers at OCuK....

Ty.

Right now the best bang for buck card is the 8800 GT.

New cards are coming in March.

The X2 by ATI is currently the fastest card at the moment but will be slower than the

9800GX2 NV new card coming soon.

At the end of the day it depends what budget you have in mind.

DX10 hasn't really picked up yet, but all the DX10 cards are cracking performers in DX9 regardless. Image quality wise the 8800 series is superior to ATIs previous efforts but I think 3800s series cards are on a par, if not slightly better now from what I've heard.

i think the 3800's are better but i dont think you would notice unless your very anal and have extremely good eyesight and are using a 30+ inch screen, the best bang for buck i would say is the 3850 pro, with a simple bios mod it is on par with 3870xt and with a pencil mod it will beat 8800GT and its half the price, but if you dont wanna do any mods its still a very good card but your probably better off with the 3870xt or 8800gt depending on which team you prefer, both of them are on par as far as bang for buck is concerned, so if your a nvidia man get an 8800GT or if your an ATI man get a 3870xt

Thanks for all the help!
Nice to see there is competition again then.

The 3850 at less than £100 looks like a steal. I like what Sonny said about the Bios mod making it an XT. Reminds me of the R350 9800SE to PRO days :)
I guess it will rip most games apart on high settings, except for Crysis?
