Dreamland Margate... Oh the memories

It was called Bemboms in my day, or as my sister used say "Can we go to Open Daily" because the sign outside declared it was "Open Daily"

Oh wow, Bembom, haha, I remember that. My Grandma took me there when we would go to the sea. We'd go to Westgate, not far, where they had a small fairground type thing and on the special occasion, we'd walk to Margate and go to Bembom's. Wow.

I should visit Margate one of these days.

I wouldn't bother visit Margate these days, it's a tragic dump and you would not be happy with what you saw. Ramsgate is improving, it's ok for a day out if you just want to walk around and have a coffee or something, but Margate is no longer what it used to be.

Bembom Brothers was awesome. I remember the Looping Star and also having my nuts crushed by the Mary Rose :)

lived in Westgate for 4 yrs, bit sad really as Margate is a dump now, I read somewhere that the EU were giving it money as a an area of extreme poverty or something.
Thats why we moved, my old man was worried that as we grew up, there would be no work...

Yeah my grandparents told me they're slowly doing bits up, but when I went back last year it was nothing like I remembered from when I was a kid, nothing at all.

I used to live on Broad Street, then Grove Road. My Mum probably worked in half the pubs that were there - The Eagle, The Queen Charlotte, The Van Gogh, whatever the one in Addington Street was.... years ago now, most of those pubs probably don't exist any more!

I went to Margate a couple of years ago. It was pretty depressing. Went in May and the place was practically deserted apart from a few yocals and yobs. We were actually warned not to go out at night because the local scene was "more than a bit iffy"! Kind of sad because there were some nice old building rotting away and you could tell that once it had been a really great popular place to visit. There is talk of money coming in to it and I hope it does because when I visited it really was the pits.(I was working there not holidaying)

Herne Bay has improved a lot.

Look like the pier is to be rebuilt too!! :)

Herne Bay is a **** tip , full of chavs and a lot of crime in the area i know i live there  . About the pier no updates on that , was supposed to be rebuilt but was put on hold thanks council!

Did you know the pier used to have a little train go from one end to the other , you can still see the ticket booth for it :D

Herne Bay is a **** tipl!

As you live there you obviously have a much better idea of the place than myself.

However, it was good to see the band-stand and ajoining shops, cafes etc re-opened and they seem to have spent a lot on the new jetty and habour.

Never knew about the little train.

I used to spend a lot of time there when I was at uni (back in the early 90's). It has imporved a lot since then.

For what it's worth, I'd rather spend a day/night in Herne Bay than in Margate.

Anyway, why have the council blocked the pier rebuild then. Surely it would attract more tourists to the area?
