Am 19 and thinking of getting my bike license after easter when my student loan kicks in.

However am unsure of what the rules are now. I have been told that there are some new laws coming though apparently these dont start till September?? Been lead to believe these new laws mean that there will effectively no longer be a direct access and you will have to sit a number of tests to move up the ladder to get onto the bigger bikes. Just hoping someone can explain to me what the changes are and when they will be.

Cheers

Look here, I had no idea it was changing, this means the test centers are going to be jam pack from now till september :( sounds like its quite rigorous though.

This is why I am doing mine before my car test :)

Yea which is a shame, they are making it so you do a lot of the test off the road, so they need a pretty big area now to lay down cones etc, as annoying as it will be it should make bikers even better not that were bad already :p but with new training we might be able to manouver around cars who pull out on us :p
But its going to be harder to get a bike license if you live quite a while away from nearest training facility.

What will the new Multi-Purpose Test Centres provide?

comfortable waiting room with toilet facilities
easy access and toilet facilities for disabled candidates
good off road parking facilities for motorcycles and cars
separate "radio kit up" room for motorcycle candidates
an off road motorcycle manoeuvring area for the new test, finished with a high specification surface providing good grip in wet and dry weather and designed to be without hazards such as drainage gullies

Atleast they know that 99 percent of the candidates are bricking it :D

Hmm, I think the removal of the DAS was just a rumour.

What will be changing is all the tests will now have 2 parts, an off road which will concentrate on slow speed control, a U turn, and an emergency stop. If you pass this you will then move onto the road element, which should basically be a ride around for 30-40 mins.
