Is there such a thing as good instant coffee?

Hi all,

I've recently started to benefit from the other half making me proper coffee instead of the rubbish out of a machine I'm used to.
Consequently I now can't drink the coffee from the machines at work, so I'm looking at alternatives.

I can't very well bring a coffee machine or something to work so it'll have to be instant.

Is there a decent instant coffee out there that will at least semi-rival ground coffee?

TIA

:)

I'm quite partial to most of the Gold Blend instants when I can't be bothered to get the grinder out. Not quite as nice as a decent ground but they've still got a nice rich flavour.

Go whittards, or similar and grab yourself a single or double cup Cafetière and a some fresh ground coffee and take that too work, a bag will last a couple of weeks and tastes much nicer - that's what I do.

Doesn't even take much more work than instant coffee.

yeah i think nescafe is good enough for instant coffee (i like tesco's own brand too) and ive got it for years. Its not great coffee but what instant coffee is? Atleast it has a nice enough taste :)

Sainsbury's Finest range (or whatever it's called) do a costa rican instant coffee that's nice and its only about £2.50.

Bodum 1 Cup Cafetière - £7
Jar to bring fresh ground coffee into work - £3
Never having to drink instant coffee at work again - Priceless

An instant will never rival a proper perculation however douwe egberts continental dark makes a reasonable cup of coffee.

The thing to remember wrt instants though is that you need at least one decent heaped teaspoon of coffee to even start to rival the strength of a decent fresh cup. Usually I make sure the bottom of the mug has a decent covering. My family all make with a small teaspoons worth and while i'm sure its got less caffeine etc etc it sure does taste watery :)

Instant coffee never tastes very good, OK for cooking but thats about it. Either of these is good if you don't have a coffee machine to hand:

Those Rombouts things are annoying imo... They make such a tiny cup of coffee and produce SO much waste its unreal :\

I bought the Columbian one and while the coffee produced was reasonable, it certainly wasnt a patch on a decent freshly ground cup.. and I felt so darned guilty throwing away a huge lump of plastic after every single cup of coffee!

So true. I never usually measure my instant, just pour it in until the bottom of the mug is covered. This equates to about 3 teaspoons of coffee.

When people make it using only one, it tastes like watery milk.

The added bonus is no spoon to wash either.
