Is there such a thing as good instant coffee?

Agreed :) The Cafetière mugs are definitely the best option.

I used to have one of those and it was pants, the seal around the outside of the plunger wasn't tight enough against the side of the mug and let pretty much all of the granules past. Same thing happened with the cheap Tesco cafetiere I bought to replace it, can't fault the bodum ones though :)

The one I got from Lakeland went like that after about a year but it only cost a few quid - well worth it as it meant I didn't have to drink that ground mud they sell in jars.

I had one. The plastic section you grasp to push or pull the filter snapped off.

So I bought another one. Same thing happened.

They worked well until they snapped, though.

As for good instant coffee - not if you're used to proper coffee. You may as well class proper coffee and instant coffee as different drinks.

I just buy any Fair Trade instant coffee for ethical reasons. Supermarket own brand. It'll do if I'm drinking instant coffee.

Yeah real coffe and instant are pretty different. As good as alta rica is it's nor really a substitute. Just a nice instant.

But as well as disgusting instant, you can also get disgusting 'real' coffee as well. It's all a matter of taste. Just go and try out loads of sifferent ones and see what you like.

The liquid coffee concentrate from Dowe Egberts a couple of years ago was nice. Do they still make it?

Kenco Blue (Really Rich).

Get mine from the Cash n Carry in 500 or 1KG tins. the 500g at the moment has 25% free, so making 750g for a tenner. Bargain.

Gold Blend as a second choice.

None are, or ever will be, as good as a fresh ground cup from a decent French Press (Cafetiere)

Only ones I can drink are:
Percol - AMericano
Dowe Egberts - The dark roasted one.

And thats only under protest when nothing else is available.

However - buy yourself a Aerobie Aeropress and proper coffee. A whole lot better and almost as easy.

I actually prefer instant coffee as i find the stuff they sell in cafes too strong!

My vote is for Nescafe. I keep going back to it.

I am not a big hot drink fan and have never even tasted coffee, It just never appealed to me.

We have some Nescafe down stairs, might have a cup tomorrow.

If you really have never tasted coffee before, and you are about to try some Nescafe for the first time, I would ask that you don't let it put you off coffee for life! Get to a cafe and try some real fresh ground coffee for the real thing, before passing judgement... :) :)

The Sainsburys version of gold blend is a bit better than the rest IMO. The Tesco version tastes like dishwater. I prefer Kenco to Nescafe too.
