Football *SPOILERS* 23/25 February - Inc. Carling Cup

You already got a pass into next season's UEFA cup by just reaching the final as it can be all but assumed Chelsea will be playing in the Champion's League next year. So they'd give [their] spot to you.

That rule only applies to the FA Cup. If the winner of the Carling Cup gains a place in the Champions League, their UEFA Cup place goes to the league.

Glad to see Ledley lift a trophy as captain. Never thought I'd see the day. :)

All those going on about it not being a major trophy:- just sour grapes because you didn't win it!
Spurs did well to win it - defo was a quality Chelsea team you were playing, but lets not beat around the bush, its the worst comp to win end of. Better than nothing, but I'd take a shot at winning FA cup, league, champs league etc over a 100% guarenteed Carling cup.

Anywho - congrats to Spurs, always nice to see the underdogs come out on top :)

Worthless Cup or not. I'd take that sitting in the trophy cabinet at the end of the season over not having anything at all sitting in it at the end.

Which a vast majority of clubs and dare I say it atleast 1 maybe 2 of the so called Big 4 (I mean 5 if we extend it to Liverpool) will have at the end of this campaign.

At the end of the day a manager is employed to win things, and you cannot argue with that. Ramos has come in, won a trophy, to many players their first trophy and it is now a foundation to play on.

It was the first trophy Chelsea won, and look what they went on to achieve under Mourinho, under no circumstances am I suggesting we will then go and win the league and FA Cup etc next season, but its a start.

We are now in Europe next season which after our poor start was our readjusted target, we can now relax and play better football for the remainder of the season, finish in the top half, hopefully collect another trophy at the end of it and then build for next season.

Ramos, 6 trophies in 2 and a half years, can we make it 7 in 3?

Well done Spurs. It was great to see spurs not only outplay a top team but to see them win with thought and precision. Ramos certainly did his homework and Spurs look such a fitter team than they did 6 months ago. Here's hoping that things move upwards for us.

Well Ramos is the real deal isn't he eh? :)

I didn't think it possible but I dislike Drogba even more than I did before the match... what a total muppet that guy is. Cheat, plain and simple.

Awesome performance from the whole team... and how cool was Berbatov for that penalty?

So do you think Martin Jol would have won the Carling cup, I was one of the ones that wanted him out and glad he went. Even more so now, the future looking great as a Spurs fan now.

It was probably the right move, but the way it was done was just all wrong. A few games into the season it was clear that the board wanted him out, but surely if they felt that way a few games in then they probably felt that way at the end of last season.

I hear the police are still looking for the Sniper that shot him in the back when he went down for the freekick.

Berbatov looked like he was on the training ground when he took that penalty. Was not the only Spurs fan in the pub who breathed a sigh of relief when Keane didn't step up to take it.

Nice to see the spurs boys played it cool out on the tiles.

Faces is a dump apparently

In hindsight, I doubt Martin Jol would have lead us to victory. The two main reasons being - 1) Chelsea had a million corners and we never defended set pieces well under Jol and 2) Ramos has improved Spurs' fitness levels enough to do real damage in extra time.

Martin Jol was a good coach but I think it's easy to see that Ramos is better. The way the club treated Jol was disgraceful but that'll soon be forgotten now that Spurs have won at Wembley and have booked their place in Europe for next season.

Another question for Spurs fans - who would you rather have through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Didier Zokora or Steffen Freund? :p

I'm obviously glad I missed the game therefore it didn't happen as far as I'm concerned and it's only a worthless cup anyway.
Gutted, there's only 1 thing worse than losing to Spurs or Liverpool and that's losing to them in a final.

beating chelsea in a final and seeing john terrys face collecting the losers medal was worth more than the cup itself :D

Good win for Spurs, nice one.

Just wanted to post my opinion of the Newcastle match as I was away all weekend.

I don't think anyone expected us to win it but it was a bit of a shame our defence let us down so badly (again). All the goals were gifted to Man U if I'm fair. Roonies second was a cracker - I can't take that away from him but it was still given to him on a plate.

Simple fact is we were out classed and Man U are in a different league to us at the moment.

To all of you going on about Keegan, none of us expected him to turn it around straight away. He's inherited a shocking team with no confidence and people are expecting him to get results at Arsenal and Man U.

Everyone is comparing his first matches with Alardyce's but no one is mentioning that Alardyce had to play:

Bolton
Villa
Middlesborough
Wigan
Derby and Westham in his first 6 games in charge. (technically Barnsley was in there two but they don't count).

Keegan has had to play:

Bolton
Arsenal
Arsenal
Middlesborough
Villa
Manchester United

It's not really a fair comparison is it? Admittedly under Alardyce we beat Bolton and Drew with Villa which turned into a draw with Bolton and a loss at Villa but the other games give a slightly skewed view of it.

We have a really tough end to the season but I can't see us being relegated. I don't know what he's going to do in the closed season mind you. By my reckoning we need to scrap 7, maybe 8 of our first team 5 of which were brought in by Alardyce.

I have no idea who we could replace them with or how we could interest anyone on coming to us at the moment but that's the way it's looking.
