I was wondering because it'll be the nearest thing to Crossfire a compact HTPC case will see. The current length of the cards in stock are about 4 cm to big for my case now.

The power connectors on them are actually adding about 4 cm - kind-of negates the smaller size.
With the increased size on the 4cm connectors plus plastic connectors from psu in total would this make the length as long as the other 3870x2s as they have the connectors on the side ?
