Samsung 226BW is doing me quite well

has one of the lowest input lag times also which would help a little with FPS's, otherwise its just added latency

Got my mate a sammy 226BW and he loves it, i must admit its a sexy monitor like, very good looking and performs as you would expect from a samsung product.

you wont be dissappointed if you opt for it!

zero lag vs crt... says it all really.

I went from a crt to e2201w. Absolutely no complaints about how it handles COD4 or company of heros. Some backlight bleed but I never notice it when using it, only when I look for it. Viewing angle isn't great, but I bet its the same for all TN panels.

Also found Iiyama's dead pixel policy to be the best in my budget. If i remember correctly they have a zero dead pixel in the cetre of the screen policy. Can check that on behardware though.

Got a Samsung Syncmaster 225uw here, cracking monitor for the money :D Looks and performs the business, built in webcam and x2 USBs also.

I think it’s a 5ms response panel.

I'm in the same position as you right now and I've been doing lots of reading. I came to the conclusion the new Samsung 2253BW might be worth waiting for. It's not in the UK yet, but it should prove to be one of the best gaming monitors in it's typical price bracket, considering the success of the previous Samsung monitors. Dynamic contrast is 8000:1, static contrast is 1000:1, and it has a more plain looking (I think classier) frame than the 2232BW. Same kind of piano black finish. Has a plexi-glass / perspex panel at the bottom for the controls.

Pardon me if this is a silly question but what is the compelling reason to get a 22" widescreen that runs at 1680x1050?

I thought that was the native res for a 20" widescreen?

By running a 22" at that same res are you not just making the pixels bigger?

Wouldn't it be better pushing straight on to a 24" running 1920x1200?

The only benefit I can see running a 22" is that you have a slightly larger screen for watching movies?
