If you were looking for a new member of staff say something or anything to do with IT would you choose a person with First Aid training over a person without, does it make a difference to you that a person can help in a situation and has taken the time to be trained?

The company H&S guy asked me if I wanted to take it as the list consist entirely of women and I'm the only male under 40-odd in the office. I'm going to take it, I just wondered how it, if anything could look good for a new job. :p

apart from it being another string to someones bow think about what it tells you about the person

Likes to wrap his lips around unconscious people? :p

In all seriousness, as said people aren't going to view it negatively.

Aye I think I failed as usual to explain my point, it was more of how much more beneficial to me would it be? :p

You'd be able to perform simple first aid.

Might be a hit with the ladies..."Hi, I'm qualified to give you the kiss of life..."

I wouldn't count it as a plus point when looking through CVs, but it would be an interesting bonus.

I'd definitely put it down and see it as a plus on your CV. I think it's something very important that far more people should be trained in. I wonder why they don't do useful stuff like first aid in secondary school.

Because teachers kissing students is wrong.

When I joined my company, we were told not to give first aid even if we did have the appropriate qualifications. They're worried about being sued if the first aid makes things worse (or they can find some quack to say it made things worse) and our insurance only covers a small list (~2-5 ppl per office) of named first aiders

I'd still stick it on my CV though - imo it goes some way to showing that you're an enthusiastic corporate citizen :p

They did in mine, St Johns Amublance first aid course. Actually a really useful course, ok so it technically expires after a few years. But the fundamentals of first aid remain mostly the same. I remember that by the time I did my second course the recommended ratio of breaths to compressions had changed for CPR. But if you are the only person present if someone needs it then the exact ratio doesn't matter too much, better that than nothing.
