Did anyone buy a 9600GT or am i alone?

The single slot cooler ones do have the `wooosh` until the driver kick in, as they are using a simular heatsink to 88xx. Not sure about the chunkier ones.

9600GT-SLI would wipe the floor with a GTS320, it offers roughly 3870x2 performance (and indeed is a bit more consistent).

It's one of the rare occasions when a couple of mainstream cards in SLI is actually a viable off-the-shelf solution in terms of how it performs relative to the high end cards i.e. it is much cheaper than the comprable solutions (8800u/3870x2).

How true, people always overlook that in order to go SLI, in general the motherboard will be a fair bit pricier. Fair enough the 650 SLI's aren't too dear, but they're also castrated somewhat compared to a good 680/780i.

Personally I will always (well, at least until Nvidia start making motherboards as stable with as few bugs) go for the Intel chipset + single card option as to me that makes the most sense form an overall system point of view.

ive got a

Asus M2N32 WS Proffessional AM2 Motherboard
AMD x2 6000+
4gb Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX
and a 8800GTS
320GB HD / and 2 160GB hds
730w Hiper PSU,

had it for over a year now, maybe more, buying a new power supply, so gettin a Corsair one, as heard they are ace :)

and just been toying with the idea of a new card, dont get me wrong, the 8800GTS has served me well, and still works great now :)

been thinking of making a new system anyway, Intel based one, with a p35 Motherboard, which may be round the corner :)

the 9600GTs look good so far though :)

got to factor in the higher cost of sli mobos compared to single slot or xfire ones tho

Obviously, but for people who already own an SLI board such as myself, it is finally a realistic option.

Of course, there are other factors to consider too, like the high power consumption and heat production, which is what puts me off. Also should I decide to upgrade in future, it will be harder to sell 2 cards than 1.

I am stuggling not to by 2 x 9600GT

For ~£220 it gives more or less the performance of 2x 8800GT in most games so I doubt it will be far behind the 9800GTX which will cost a lot more.

As I also have a N650i mainboard, I'm thinking this is a decent option for the next 12 months or so until a new hardware revision is available.
