Last night I was searching for an invoice and came across the invoice for my watercooling setup and was a little surprised to see that I bought the stuff in early 2002.

So that means my Eheim 1048 pump has been running 24/7 for 6 years wiithout any issue or maintenance.

Is that quite normal or should I be worried that the pump will die soon and maybe frying my CPU in the process?

they last a very long time set your shut down temp in bios if your worried about frying your cpu or service or replace the pump, Eheim are a great pump i have two and one of them in the chiller been running 5 years at -25c .

Eheim are a market leader in aquarium pumps and filters. Provided they put the same energy into their water cooling you could get in excess of 10 years of of one.

It was quite expensive when I bought it but I am very glad I did, it is nearly silent mounted on rubber feet and I have never had any problems with it.

I guess I will just leave it as it is, even if it fails and kills my CPU it won't matter much as I need a good excuse to upgrade my [email protected] anyway :p

I wouldnt have thought they would be the exact same pumps as the aquarium ones are quite sizeable and would probably have too much power for water cooling. Never the less I would expect the technology to be the same.

The pump is one made for an aquarium, they are excactly the same.

The pump is quite large and the waterflow is very fast but the pump is virtually silent, the only noise it can make is a slight vibration noise that is transferred to the case but I used special screws with a half inch piece of rubber that stops almost all vibration.

iv had my Eheim 1250 runnings for 5+ years now no problems so far touch wood! Eheim are meant to be the most reliable pump makers on the market as they have to be otherwise there would be a lot of angry aquarium keepers shouting about losing hundreds of ££'s worth of fish.

Yeah very true, it amazes me that the pump ran for 6 years without any maintenance or cleaning.

Just thinking about it some more, the 120mm fan on the radiator is also 6 years old and it is also still going strong.

Just to break the trend.. my eheim 1250 developed a crack in the side and decided to drip water all over my hard drives.. somehow they survived.. don't know how :S

I used a 1250 for 3.5 years 24/7. It was only stopped around 4 times when I cleaned the case internals out. No probs at all.

Unlucky, I have a very small reservoir so I would notice a leak very soon because as soon as there are air bubbels in the loop there is much more noise.

And now I am glad my pump is on the bottom of the case so any leaks would drip on the bottom of the case.
