New Metal Gear Online Images

The meat is in the gamplay and story. Metal Gear was never about graphics, and those who say otherwise are only doing a disservice to the series and what it's really about. It's also diving into the inevitable console wars again.

The number of people going on about the graphics is silly.

GoW is ancient now anyway :p

Crysis is an awesome game but it's hardly the best game ever. I beat the campaign mode once then wondered why Crytek did it again (stop it with the poor alien levels already). I wasn't talking graphics when I said MGS4 would stomp on everything else released this year.

Obviously one game is out and the other isn't, but I just have a gut feeling that at the end of the year, one of them will be spoken about fervently and the other largely ignored. We all know which one each will be.

Gears uses deferred rendering AA which operates on a level similair to 4xMSAA - in fact it even did transparency anti-aliasing at 4 samples. Gears of War is still far better looking than Metal Gear Solid 4. Nobody's kidding themselves here, it's UE3 licensed tech versus a one-off Konami project. It has to be the best to attract business.

Trust me, UE3 was unable to do HDR and AA at the same time. This has only been rectified recently, I think you have your wires crossed .... a use of oversaturated colour palette and effective uses of the lighting system did a very good job at disguising this but it is a well known fact that UE3 was unable to perform AA and HDR and that one was sacrificed for the other.

Only in DX10 on the PC version does Gears of War have AA. Beyond3d did test at the time at Gears on 360 had no AA. Fact.

and cheets64 - Metal Gear Solid 4 will come with a "starter pack" that will give gamers a taste of what to expect from the full version seperate release of MGS Online

Why don't you turn on Gears of War (do you even have a 360?) and have a look for yourself, it has very little aliasing. You're so incorrect it's not funny.

Maybe I should take actual photos myself of 360 and PS3 games with no AA and with 4xAA? Or are you going to continue looking like a fool?

edit: oh and stop spamming .gifs

I have a feeling Needles was deliberately being flatout wrong in his assumptions about UE3 on 360 and its HDR/AA capabilities just to aggravate everyone (makes a change from whoring .gifs from neogaf and 4chan). It was well-documented and had a massive seat on the hype-train before GoW's release that it was a big pusher of the eDram and one of the first major releases to take full advantage of it with deferred anti-aliasing and HDR capabilities. Let's not forget Bioshock either.

Excuse me I have stopped posting gifs since one of the dons asked me a couple of days ago.

And I put this thread up for those interested in MGO and I am absolutely not attention seeking.

And it is a known fact that Gears of War does not have AA on the 360 version, and yes I have a 360 and got Gears on launch day, its an excellent looking game that does not have AA but uses some tricks to hide that fact and they work very well.

Don't know why you have decided to attack me, was it because I had a different opinion than yourself ?

For all the things I have done, I have never got personal and what ever you edited out of your post ...... post it back up.

UE3, on ALL hardware, acquires a significant performance penalty when MSAA is enabled (on all GPUs) due to their deferred rendering techniques. i.e. not a tiling issue, but an incompatibility issue between UE3 and MSAA.

And from many sources on the net ( reputable sources ) UE3 uses deferred rendering for shadows in the game which cause issues with AA, it can be implemented with a code re -write ( Too Human had 4x MSAA using UE3 before the current nastiness but struggled getting the framerate stable which was one of the issues that led to the lawsuit ).

If I need to provide sources that Gears lacked AA to prove I wasn't lying or trying to stir it up, I will.

1. Look up deferred rendering
2. Stop pooping up threads, including your own, with offtopic diatribes and pointless debates which only serve to bait everyone else
3. I edited out a quip about having to remove you from ignore to see the images, but didn't think it was relevant. Since this thread is now so pooped up with bravado and brinksmanship, does'n't matter anymore - back to ignore you go
4. Oh and you smell of wee

LOL, you were wrong on Gears having AA and threw your toys out of the pram.

Quality insults and some nice forum policing, getting a bit above your station.

Take it easy, relax and ask yourself why you need to insult me when I have not insulted you.
