...and I have been found guilty!

I did travel in considerable excess of 60 in a 30 zone. I drove carelessly.

My punishment is 6 points and a £360 fine.

Do people think this is a suitable punishment or too lenient or too tough? I, personally, was expecting something more considerable in at least a short ban, and probably deserved it too.
 
I think that you got off lightly to be honest..

The important thing is.. have you learn't from your lesson ? ;)
 
Personally I think you got away rather lightly, lucky chap. Bet you're glad the whole thing is over.

With regards to it being too lenient or tough - Do you think it will stop you doing it again?

It's a bummer. I have had it on my licence with 4 points since 2004 and it made a big difference. Since it was 4 years ago it doesn't add quite as much to my insurance now, currently £375-ish on the Z4. When I first got it, the insurance on my passat increased by about 60% and it was nigh on impossible to get quoted on anything remotely interesting.

What makes it worse is that you have to tell the insurance companies for 5 years even though I believe the points are wiped after 4.


With regards to the sentence, I think it was far too lenient given the cirsumstances and your lax attitude towards speed but it's all done and dusted now. Count yourself lucky.

It will certainly stop me getting in to that particular situation again, but I will probably always be one of those people that drive a little too fast.

I've been running some quotes and it's gonna do me for about £600 in the first year, obviously dropping off in the next couple of years to virtually nil.

Yep, on 9 points now. Living on a knife-edge! I am very lucky, but I think my statement was very sincere and the court appreciated that.
 
It certainly seems to be the consensus that it appears lenient, which is very much expected considering the circumstances. I would be interested to know the typical outcome for a case like this. All of the research I did found that most people nearing 60 in a 30 were getting short-term bans of at least 14 days or so.
 
Very lucky it seems.

Learn from it though please. Over 60 in a 30 is not big or clever.

Still what's done is done, time to move on.
