Dental Prices?

I feel cheated :(

I paid my £15.90 today and asked him to polish my teeth (pink toothpaste and pink gargley stuff?) and he said he was going to refer me to the hygienist and that she does all that.

So I went outside and found out that the hygienist costs £40!!!

**** that... next time I will be more persistent!!!

Yeah, a lot of NHS dentists do not do the scale + polish because it has no obvious benefit for oral hygeine. My dentist has big posters up about it everywhere.

I will get it next time... they take the ****

£15.90 and I don't get anything for it!! I expect at least a brush.

Apparently I am missing four teeth :/ all my '8s' are missing.

Damit!

While we're on the subject of dental costs, how much does it cose to have a tooth built up that is chipped? I have had check ups before but never mentioned it nor did they feel inclined to do something with it. So would this have to be done privately?

I think that is effectively a crown so £194 NHS and about £3-400 private

I see no reason to go private, there are a few areas where NHS dentists are in short supply, no idea about your area but no issues at all finding a NHS dentist around here

Any one know how much i'd be roughly looking at to get a tooth filled??

Its a fairly big crack in the tooth and dont want it removed (plus it not loose or anythin..jus a bit of it chiped away lol) o and a $*^% SCARED of the dentist. :(

so anyone been the dentist lately an had tha sorta thing??

Same position as me, my wisdom tooth is cracked and has an exposed nerve, haven't had any dental problems before so this was the first time I was going to register with a dentist for many years and it was impossible to find a practice locally that accepts NHS patients, I have an hour's drive to a different health board region next Wednesday to get it sorted on the NHS.

While I was looking I did have a peek into private dental costs and stumbled across this:

I pay £45 for a hygienist visit, add another £50 to that if I have a checkup with the dentist (all of 2 minutes), and my crown (chipped a tooth as a kid) was just over £300.

Private dentist.

Scort.

Yes but as my NHS dentist also does private work, I am wondering if that would fall under being done privately rather than under NHS.

I've just got back from the dentist this morning after having a tooth prepared for capping. I will say that he is considered expensive as he does exclusive private work. He is, however, extremely good and his work generally lasts a long time so theres a sort of guarantee that I won't have to go back again for a long time. Its gonna cost me £512 for all the work, that includes, examination, preparation, hygenist, capping the tooth and a reinspection after about a week or two. Oh and also the "tomazopan" they give you as a relaxant if you're on the rack for more than an hour (which I'm still under the influence of and I feel great:))
I don't have to go private but I choose too 'cos the dental work I get in top notch.

Do students get free dental care? I've not had a check up for a good 3 years or so.

You have to pay for it and then send some forms off to claim the cost back, at least thats how it works for a check up not sure about the more expensive work

went to the dentist the other day for a usual check up, after prodding around he tells me "everything looks fine just keep on doing what your doing really". Then comes the "I'll just do a quick clean and polish"

Get to the counter to pay and £60 :(

Serious restorative work on a tooth, similar to yours, usually costs me about £300. There's no cheap options around where I live in the SE. Unless pliers count.

To be honest though, although it hurts to pay that much, it rarely hurts anywhere near as much as the broken/damaged tooth. Besides, I think dentists earn every penny. Who fancies going to work at 8 in the morning to stare in people's mouths and inhale their halitosis?

Andrew McP... who booked a check-up this morning. I'm planning a camera upgrade, but I'd better check my teeth are ok while there's still money in the bank!

I just had to have some dental stuff done after a fair while without having had a checkup :(

3 white fillings - £160
1 attractive NHS silver filling - £38 - might turn into a root canal, which Mr Dentist says will be ~£600 :/
1 checkup - £15.90
