I've had both. MK3 VR6 (with 2.9 TB, tubular manifold, downpipe, exhaust etc about 190bhp if i remember correctly) and Octy vRS currently (chipped to 210-220 bhp).

VR6 was simply an animal. OK cornering wasn't great neither was the car itself. But the engine tune and torque at any revs was fantastic. It's didn't hang about either ask will gill, and the heavy lump got it off the line well.

I seen one just like miune at santa pod, but with a supercharger. It was insane, the noise and the speed. Incredible.

The 1.8T I have now is faster, just, but delivers the power silently with no fuss or drama. The sound isn't anything special - just generic 4 pot noise. But with an open filter and a single box I can imagine it would be something more special.

On balance i've gone for the 1.8T for the potential to produce a good sound track and the ease of getting 350bhp by chosing the right turbo, injector and intercooler. No internal mods required.

interesting.....

you lot have managed to vote almost 50/50 lol

VR lump vote here. As long as you set the front suspension up properly I can't see there being to much of an issue with the small amount of extra weight. Just don't cheap out on the suspension upgrades!!!!

i've just spend an hour reading a thread on the e38 forums whre at 14 year old started with a mk2 and has done so much.

at 14 he has smoothed the engine bay, doing a conversion, smoothed body panels. resprayed the entire car himself. its stunning!

well i've gone and tried a quick money making this. bought a 1.6 driver of ebay really cheap with 12months MOT ideal condition.

so im going to get it in the paper and sell it on hopefully should be able to get some interest at £495. makes me some extra money to get the engine soon :D

Vote for VR6 from me. I wish I had never sold the Corrado VR6 I owned for 6 years. Truely one of the best value cars ever and a fantastic engine. You'll get more power from a 1.8T but a more involving experience from the VR6 (make sure you fit a K&N or equivalent, awesome noise).

im going for the VR6 as they are easier to get hold of, and the deal i have been offered is very tasty.

direct from a company that specialise in building VR6 mk2's :)

A guy in work has a rear/side damaged Corrado VR6 for sale, everything under the bonnet is still there apart from the radiator fans. It's done 80k miles and he wants about £500 for it. If you havent sourced an engine and want his details let me know.

I've had a look for some mk2 mirrors, I can only find one and its not in great condition.

awesome, what is left on the car and where is he located to?

having spoke to my mate who vr6 his golf, hes done the bottom ends :( just like mine, hes orderd a load of parts from the states so once its rebuilt it'll be up for sale, and slightly over 200bhp.

tbh id go for a 1.8t if you want an easy life, the vr6 isnt as reliable as it should be :(.

vr6. 20vts have a ghey power delivery. great engines for headline horse power but the way the power is delivered is completely wrong

Doors are missing and the radiator fans. He's taking some pictures of it and sending them to me during the week, I'll forward them on to you. He's in North Wales!

Mate has a v6 in his mk2, Its not affected handling I would say (tho now runs coilovers) It does however drink fuel . AND I MEAN DRINK!!!! He got a raceland i think manifold for his and it looks supper sexy!

VR6. Both engines will be quite fast enough in a mk2, so might as well get the engine with the fantastic noise to put a smile on your face.
