It's from the metropolitan police service and there's a name on the letter but the phone number is incomplete. Trying to find it online right now...

I reckon I would have noticed if I had caused an accident! :p

So it'll be another drivers word against mine and also any proof they provide such as CCTV footage?
 
If you had no involvement then you have nothing to worry about.

Just reply saying you have no knowledge of any accident at the time. Sounds like someone got their wingmirror smacked or something and decided you looked like an easy target and reported your plate.

I would imagine that there would have to be some evidence to back up their claim of a collison? otherwise anyone with a friend as backup could just claim anyone hit you and just pick someones reg number at random?

Always worth following it up.

You dont want to be receiving a summons in a few weeks cause you failed to respond to the letter :D

Just be a bit pro-active. Call the mainline number of the station mentioned, or if there is not a station mentioned, the general enquiries number. :)
 
I got a letter from the police a few years back for overtaking a vehicle that someone obviously took offence to. Letter read along the lines of dangerous driving or something. I rang the police gave them my side of the situation and the matter wasn't taken any further. Just do the same.
 
Are you sure the letters genuine? I'd ring up any contact number just to confirm if it is and get your views across.
 
Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I've spoken to the traffic officer at the branch and apparently some bloke has gone in to say the back of my bike scraped the offside front of his car. I don't recall this at all and I'm not sure how this would be possible without damaging my own bike.

I'll be sending them a letter stating I don't recall the incident and it's then up to them to provide the evidence. It doesn't look like they have a leg to stand on really but I'm also wondering how far this can go?
 
Sounds like someone keyed his car and he's attempting to get you to replace the panels..

I would certainally engage in a lawyer and let the lawyer issue the statement to the police.

I don't see how this was possible without him knocking you off!
 
A woman pulled out in front of me to do a U turn and somehow I avoided her, and she hit the back L plate on the bike and bent the bracket, but she had a ding in her wing (crappy Kia's lol), so I pulled over and asked her if she was OK and she went ballistic. "Stay right ******* there you wee ****, I'm going to phone the police", and she said "I was doing a U-turn and I didn't look behind me and you just hit me!" (massive fail on her part) anyhoo, she was adamant that I had to pay for the damage and it was my fault so the peelers took statements, and it ended up she got done for driving without due care and attention in court.

Tell the truth and make sure you have no specs of paint on your indicator/foot pegs etc and you should be fine, otherwise own up or it'll be points and fine for you!

Brilliant. there is something about bikes that just seems to say they're a mug to some drivers.
