Im getting bit fed up with my 8800gts giving me black screens every day and random lock ups in games so i was thinking could i get a refund or what ever via ocuk for 2 3870 and run them in crossfire on a PB5 asus mobo ?

I got the same mobo and am sure the 2nd psie slot in crossfire only does 4x which makes it not worth it.Well thats what i thought after abit of research

Obviously there is a problem with the GTS of a software problem. Have you not even tried to investigate the problem, you do realise its not normal for all the black screens right?

Why not just get a 3870 X2?

EDIT - Ahh the 8800GT is acting borked. I notive you have a 530w Hiper which are notoriously flaky... can you test another PSU at all?

Have to agree with that choice. If you can return it, then the 3870X2 is the card to go for; same perofrmance as 2x 3870XT cards in crossfire but it will run of 1x PCIE slot.

its weird it stops blacking out once the pc has had a fresh reboot after that its fine. and other problem too with cod4 (im not sure if this is a cod4 issure of gpu issue) click on cod4 comes up with cod4.exe ......... has stopped working and closes the down. the only way to get it to run is to roll back the driver and the game works fine no problems. but if i was to turn off pc or restart or anything like that and try to run cod4 it comes up with the same message cod4.exe has stopped working. the only way i worked out how to run the game is update the driver and works fine as long as i dont restart or turn off pc!

Put your CPU back at full stock settings and stock voltage, also remove any overclock form your graphics card. Does that help?

P.S. You can use the EDIT button to add to a previous post, and the QUOTE button to quote someone elses text who you are responding to.

thanks for the tips. atm i have the cpu back at stock settings i will report back if i get black screens - sometimes it can be up 2 hours since ive turned on the pc!

PSU... please try another one. Personally I don't trust the Hipers as far as I can throw them. Order a Corsair HX520w and then use uit to test. You can always return it within 7 days under the Distance Selling Act if it's not the problem and you decide you don't want to keep it (though you should do, it's miles ahead of the Hiper).
