I'm after the pirates films on blu ray, had a quick looky on the bay, is it OK to buy from there or are they generaly fake / copies (if blu ray can be copied yet?)

If you're after pirate films, then they're counterfeit by definition...

:D

Someone had to make that gag sooner or later - good to get it out of the way early on I suppose...

It's daresay it's possible to make a Blu-ray copy, but it's not nearly as cost-effective as doing the same for DVD.

I've sold quite a few BR/HD-DVD titles recently, and all but one even questioned my authenticity. If you're unsure, my advice is to go for ones where's there's a proper photo of the item, not a pic grabbed from a website. Also, user feedback is a useful guide - make sure you check the feedback for similar items.

To be honest, I've not found eBay to be much cheaper than buying new online so often decide not to risk it.

Many International sites will state which titles are region-free also, if you choose to buy from overseas.

It's certainly possible, but not cost effective (as DolbyDigitalTHX says). The discs along cost the best part of a tenner IIRC.

you need the 50gb duallayer bluray discs to make a copy & they far outweigh the cost of a original at the moment

so i wouldnt bother with thinking there fake etc for a while

cheapest I've seen blank 25gb disks in stock is $9.48

These are all under 25gb according to the forum... It would probably pay to be a bit wary.

EDIT - All the pirates movies look to be on the large side so you are probably ok

Plus if you remove an audio track or two (especially PCM) the disc sizes dramatically reduce.

But I think the cost of BDRs are enough to put people off selling copies (at the moment..)

On my NZB website there are loads and loads of HD-DVD/Blu-Ray 1080P rips with 5.1 DTS/Dolby and so on, the biggest I've seen for a 1080P was 14Gb.

I imagine you could easily make your own Blu-Ray that's bootable and make it under 20Gb, depends if you want the extras and higher definition audio.

Those are x264 encodes of the blu-ray, hd-dvd. So basically divx of the dvd world.

Yeah - these are re-encoded in MKV containers and have reduced (but still generally very good) quality.

Phil99 is right though IMO - Its possible that 90% of Blurays can be burned to a 25gb disc with no change to the video stream at all just by dropping some sound streams that most people will never notice.
