....go here. I've been a tad too busy to make a thread this time, which is a shame - as I suspect this race could see a lot of carnage. The newish surface at LVMS, the COT, the fact that these drivers are all completely bonkers....it ought to make for a good show. Certainly did in practice. It was a good 'un last season when the surface was brand new and Goodyear brought along a tyre that was so hard everyone nearly fell off the road :)

tis a shame no thread from you JRS, i will tune in for this one as always and see what happens, as you say this is a promising race with the CoT and the tire/car setup problems with the new surface.

I predict carnage tonight. :D Loads of problems in the Natiowide race and in practice.

i think ill let this die out, ill update on crashes and stuff if i have time, apart from that i need to rebuild my R/C truck for the race tomorrow night

Was a good race, quite a few crashes...Tony Stewart taking himself out on lap 109:D:D...that made my night as i cannot stand the guy. Earnhardt Jr had a good run but ended up in 2nd place so cant really complain...was kinda hoping he would have won it but Carl Edwards was just too quick tbh and therefore took the chequered flag. Jeff Gordon had a pretty nasty crash and almost took the whole field out...his car was completely totalled tho but thankfully he was ok.

Hopeing EArnhardt Jr can finally get a win next week in Atlanta.

Is crashing what makes a good NASCAR race? Just interested as most people here were talking about carnage and crashing before and after the race as if that is the highlight of NASCAR. I've noticed it in other threads (not just here) as well, it's as if no one wants to see racing, but would prefer mayhem and then yellow flag periods!

When you get 43 cars racing as opposed to waiting for pitstops to try and overtake then there are bound to be incidents. Nascar is the biggest motorsport event in the world spectator wise for a reason. It's all about wheel to wheel racing.

I know, but in a thread with 8 posts we had half of them focusing mainly on the crashes and carnage first rather than talking about who they want to win, championship hopes etc. Just seems a bit alien to me I guess that people would be more interested in the crashes than the racing. :)

For me i would say definitely yes, i dunno i find Nascar so much more interesting and exciting than say F1 tbqh...which lets face it can be an utter bore at times. At least with Nascar theres a good chance that the pole sitter wont win 9/10 times and also a good chance that you will see a few crashes along the way...plus its wheel to wheel racing as said previously. The cars are more or less even and race either 2 wide or in the case of Daytona and the bigger speedway tracks...they can race 3 wide at times.

I know what i definitely prefer...Nascar all the way. Funnily enough its only this yr ive really got into it ie watching the races, thank god Sky decided to do live coverage of the races this yr. Makes a change from F1 for me...plus already looking at Daytona 500 next yr with my bro...should be a ball.

Sorry for the late arrival back, busy week.

Regarding crashes being the main part of the spectacle - I only mentioned the carnage as the spring race at Vegas last year produced one of the most wreck-filled weekends I've ever seen. It was ludicrous - the new surface provoked Goodyear into bringing a very, very hard compound tyre. Which had no grip, as half the field found to their cost. But crashes don't necessarily make-or-break a race for entertainment. The Busch race last year at the Mexico road course didn't have many crashes, but provided serious thrills watching Montoya scythe back through the field after a botched pit stop. The spring Martinsville race was exciting mainly because we didn't see a crash between Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon for the win - they simply fought each other hard all the way to the line. There were plenty of other races like that as well - Montoya running the old school line at Atlanta and taking a serious gamble on fuel at Sears Point being other examples of stuff that was fun to watch without needing bits of car flying everywhere. Phoenix, where Jeff Gordon matched the late great Dale Earnhardt on the all-time winlist. Darlington, where Jeff managed to win despite driving a car that was spewing steam from it's well-cooked engine for pretty much a third of the race.

Actually, OcUK Forum Top Tip™ for you right there. If Juan Montoya, Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson are at the sharp end, it'll be a good race. If Tony Stewart or Kyle Busch are leading, switch off :)
