I have noticed recently that there seems to be a lot of swearing appearing on here, most is starred out which is fine however there seems to be more and more cases of it not being fully starred out.

The FAQ says:

No swearing, posting of "adult" material, personal attacks or "trolling"
OcUK would like you and your whole family to learn and share via our forums. For this reason swearing and the posting of "adult" or offensive material is forbidden. Simply replacing some of the letters in a swearword with a * or any other character is not acceptable. If you must then please replace the whole word with ***** or other repeated character. We also expect members to behave respectfully and not launch personal or abusive attacks on other members. Those who post for the sole purpose of causing trouble are not welcome here and will be dealt with accordingly.

If you pop over to the motors section, Mohinder has a thread about bikers. In this thread alone there are currently 5 cases of swearing that has not been fully starred out. Such as aposting **** with ed on the end. What's worse is that a Don has actually quoted one such thread and not even corrected it.

Now I swear in my home etc, but I am always careful who is about. My little brother often visits these forums for a read and although he hasn't registered I don't really want him thinking that it is ok to use these words when trying to talk about something.

Are we supposed to stick to the FAQ or can we just follow it whenever we like?

I've already emailed you on this matter and I deem that to be the end of it.

****ing is not against the rules.

You stick to it. If there is something you are unsure about then RTM it, as you have done. If it is not against the rules it will not be acted upon.

OH NO!? CALL THE INTERNET POLICE, SOMEONE DIDNT STAR A SWEARY?! The effect of this terrible act could be unimaginable!

Perhaps one day Fox someone will deem you intelligent and responsible enough to let you look after a young child, perhaps then, when you are more mature you will understand why this is an issue :)

SK07 Stop trolling.

The rules are in place for just reasons- the best thing to do if a post is offensive is to simply report the post and wait until a moderator fixes this as mentioned above.

because they are in a dictionary does it make it ok to write them on a family forum?

Okay who decided that that specific word is a naughty word. Think about it the S word is the same as crap, the F word is the same as sex, so what difference does it make they all mean the same thing. One day someone says it's a naughty word.

it is because the words are used in an offensive manner and always have been

Who actually gives a crap? whining about this, jesus. They are words in the dictionary you know .

Well it irritates me, as i've been temp suspended twice at least for swearing (accidentaly, you know when you type a huge thread and something slips through), then I see umpteen other people getting away with it on a daily basis without an eyelid batted.

Also, Gilly says that ****ed is fine as is ****ing yet, why is this allowed when it clearly states in the FAQ that:

. Simply replacing some of the letters in a swearword with a * or any other character is not acceptable. If you must then please replace the whole word with ***** or other repeated character.

According to that Gilly is wrong, either that or the FAQ is wrong. One of them needs correcting.

Well this is ****ed, what a load of ****ing ****ehouse. This is all ****ing fine then right?

I always thought the whole lot had to be starred :o
