the forum and swearing

I'm pretty sure I remember someone receiving a verbal warning because they left an 'ed' or 'ing' at the end of a starred out swear word...

The worlds gone mad, swearing has become everyday language for many- & that includes many children out of their parents earshot, Never heard your child swear? creep up to their room or listen to them playing with other kids & you may be shocked at what you hear.
Any children likely to peruse this forum would not be the very young simply because of its format & if they did they wouldn't read anything they hadn't seen before scrawled somewhere at school

Just because they do it, doesn't mean we should encourage it. There are rules in place here and its one of the main reasons I visit this forum. We don't all need to be swearing to feel like adults do we?

Fcuk make some crap T-shirts...

I'll get my coat!

You do that :p

That is true, my brother is 9 and I know that he knows more swear words than me yet I see no reason that we should allow kids of any age to think swearing is acceptable.

The main reason for the thread was that a swear word used to have to be fully starred out. The ed or ing on the end of the swear word is still a part of the same word so in my eyes should also be starred out. However, we have been told different now.

Perhaps one day Fox someone will deem you intelligent and responsible enough to let you look after a young child, perhaps then, when you are more mature you will understand why this is an issue :)

Are you serious? The youngest person I've seen on here is like 14...by that age do you honestly think they don't know cursewords? LOL.

The house, leave it.

You're missing the point. Just because it is everyday language for some people doesn't mean that it is right. Personally I congratulate Spie on taking the high moral ground on this rather than letting these fine forums slide down to the level of many similar places.

Quite apart from this argument - what would your suggested alternative be? No restrictions at all, or just some 'stronger' words being banned? The latter scenario would be even more difficult to police than the current arrangements.

a member of the staff in a band one below the owner has told you what that rule actually means, is there really any need to debate it any further?

No. That is not and never has been the case :)

Awesome. I never knew that, I thought it had to be fully *'d.

**** ****ety **** ****!

If you have to fully star out a swearword i dont really see the point in using it,waste of time.

I use it to display extreme displeasure/disgust.

For example, I ****ing hate Virgin Media, they are complete ****s, my ****ing internet has been down all ****ing day and I am about to stab some ****er if it doesn't get fixed. ****!

I feel this has more impact than:

I hate Virgin Media. My internet has been down all day. I won't be happy if it doesn't get fixed.

so, just because a word is in a subset of a language that is deemed by some to be a "swear" word, it is automatically unacceptable? what part of you actually believes that swearing isn't right? just what you've been indoctrinated with?

I have to be honest there was a post with swearing in it "child born out of wedlock" and it was not being used in that context.

Think it stayed up for about 2 days even after being RTM'd. Could have been a low don day I suppose but the action on swearing seems to have slackened of late.

****ing is not against the rules.

.

Because it could quite easily mean Blinking, Freaking or one of many other mild cusses.
@ O.P.
I know you want to protect your little brother but have you not thought how he will react when he goes out in the real world & hears a sweary. I don't think the first time he hears a sweary should be out on the street do you ???

I've already emailed you on this matter and I deem that to be the end of it.

****ing is not against the rules.

You stick to it. If there is something you are unsure about then RTM it, as you have done. If it is not against the rules it will not be acted upon.

Thats strange as I have been Suspended for doing that a cupple of times without noticeing. And so has one of my friends. Hmmmmmmmmm :/.

According to your user notes you haven't. Every time somone is suspended, a record is left on their usernotes. For a usernote not to have been left a "cupple" of times is highly unlikely. I can only conclude that you are lying.

I have noticed recently that there seems to be a lot of swearing appearing on here, most is starred out which is fine however there seems to be more and more cases of it not being fully starred out.

The FAQ says:

If you pop over to the motors section, Mohinder has a thread about bikers. In this thread alone there are currently 5 cases of swearing that has not been fully starred out. Such as aposting **** with ed on the end. What's worse is that a Don has actually quoted one such thread and not even corrected it.

Now I swear in my home etc, but I am always careful who is about. My little brother often visits these forums for a read and although he hasn't registered I don't really want him thinking that it is ok to use these words when trying to talk about something.

Are we supposed to stick to the FAQ or can we just follow it whenever we like?

FFS who cares, it's not the end of the world, 95% of this forum are ADULTS... who gives a **** if some people put "ed" on the end of some starred out words, get a grip!

Honestly, the things people moan about...
