Moments of Irresponsibility (motors confessional thread)

The fuel pump went on my Hyundai and despite running fine it was peeing out fuel. So instead of taking it to the nearest place to get it fixed I went home, got my mum to follow me in her car to our regular mechanic so I could drop her off and drive her car back to college.

A trip of 24 miles in which time I used 2/3 tank of fuel  When we popped the bonnet the fuel pump was happily spraying fuel all aver the engine and hot exhaust  Was pretty stupid driving the damn thing :o

Overtaking several cars whilst going up a long incline towards a crest, on a single carriageway...

2.5x the speed limit in one place

Experimenting with lift-off oversteer quite a bit? ;)

Quite a few come to mind...

Worst one that comes to mind was when I was a passenger in my friends 205gti 1.9. Four up, he told me that we should go an do the 'jump'. The guys in the rear seats decided they would rather watch, so got out at the 'landing zone'.
He proceeded to make a few runs to try and catch a clear road, the first two attempts were unsucessful. In order to get sufficient speed we had to get through the lights at >60mph, and on the last run there was just one car ahead. Friend literally squeezed past the guy, narrowly missing the kerb, and onwards to the big 'hump' in the road ahead.
I can't remember the exact speed, but it has to have been around 80-90mph, fast enough that the guys spectating said he could see the underside of the car. Twenty meters later we landed and amazingly he managed to keep it under control, with me swearing that I'd never do anything like that again.

They've since leveled out the road as it was proving to be too dangerous.

Friend turned out to be a liability, and would routinely cane his bike through london after drug benders. After a 'smoking' session he concluded he wasn't sharp enough to ride - well, that was soon cured after a quick snort. Very bad man.

I know....was a 40 in the middle of no-where though, with nothing to hit apart from a stray sheep....wasn't clever though, no

Getting chased by the police when I was 17 on my way to work at 4.30am then parking with lights off as they drove right by ,use to do it most weeks then one day they knocked at my door saying they new who I was ,my parents were like "who was that at the door",......... "ere no one mum" !

Think they are a bit stupid in london as I tried it once down here and they reversed when I pulled in with the lights off and walked up to the car with me hiding head to the floor :o Got done for no seatbelt but let off for running away !

Awaits flaming !

Unless you also used to steal cars or drive around with no numberplates or drive with fake plate or no insurance that story doesn't hang together

I would only run away if they were a long way behind ,to far to get my reg no.

I once had a dream where a friend of mine with an Elise might've been out driving a bit fast around the ringroad and got chased by the police but managed to outrun them and get the car back in the garage before he woke up from his deep sleep.

I once ran from the police in the 214.

On the way home from work one morning (1am ish) I was doing 50 in a 30. Passed a police car coming the other way and watched them turn around in my mirror.

Kept the pace up for a few miles and they were nowhere to be seen. Slowed back down as I thought I'd lost them only to have them come flying up behind me a few seconds later.

Somehow, I got away with just a telling off.

Nah... I'd rather not incriminate myself :p Especially considering there seems to be more cops policing the 'net, Youtube etc than walking the beat these days...

what he said. i've got enough crimes to my name without admitting the ones they dont know about!

Woah, cool dream! :p;)

I can only think of 2 things.
Going far too fast down an empty 3 lane motorway with 3 others in my car (one of whom was asleep). Bearing in mind i have a 1.4 almera, far too fast isnt actually all that fast :D.

And the other, resulting in me crashing was going a bit too fast down some country lanes i had never driven before, found a tight, greasy s-bend corner, went sideways and ended up ontop of a hedge. No one else was in the car though and i just asked a farmer nicely to pull it out then i drove home.

see, what you want to do in that kind of situation (or say, if they were stuck in a lay by because of cars in the inside lane) is nail it untill they are out of site and jump off the next random exit and hide in a random drive, not that i'd know about these kind of things or anything....

driving my car to the pub getting out my face then letting my mate drive who claimed to be sober then when pulled he pretended to be me and I him for insurance ,but we were to drunk to pull it off ,he got a ban for 1 year and I for 6 months for aiding and betting . But in my defence I did not know he was drunk and would have left my car in the car park . Although I got done as he was not insured to drive my car !

suppose i could tell you the ones i have been caught for seeing as i've already been punished for them.

128 in a 60. nothing much to say really - camera behind a tree so didnt see it until it lit the road up.

75 in a 50. although video proof says otherwise. ;) they were doing 135 and i was pulling away before i saw them (was erm a fair bit quicker than them). the 80mph wheelie through a 40 didnt help and nor did the sparks coming from my knee sliders across the 3 roundabouts. luckily the passenger in the scooby was a biker and so he made a decision to put that down as 75 as i was clearly a skillful rider and was considerate to other road users (caught me overtaking a car but giving a very wide berth and indicating etc all the time) and i slowed down for residential. his words not mine - and he let me off having a small plate, race can and dark visor. :) the best coppers are all in leicestershire. :) if i go to oxford/cambridgeshire theyre all nobs out that way. :(

All the usual messing when I was younger tbh. Now I'm quite boring - generally 20% above the limit max and take it easy most of the time. Still love to put a bit of spirit into back roads, and have fun on big empty roundabouts in the early hours though..

However, I was sideways in Belfast city centre at 11.30pm at the weekend :o Totally accidental. That Navara is lethal. Honest Guv.
