matrix, sounds like you have the same problem as me!

No yellow! and wireless lights up fine. Bluetooth will not come on at all. I tried turning it off, then on in BIOS. Looked through every device in device manager in case its install wrong drivers and nothing! well confused.

I rarely use Bluetooth so its not a showstopper but the girlfriend will be annoyed as I cant send tracks to her mobile any more :)

So, which panels has everyone got and is it grainy. anyone with the samsung panel confirm that it is grainy?

I ordered my XPS M1530 on the 14th Feb, and received it on the 22nd. It got it through Dell Outlet, and paid 650 inc vat and delivery.

I think i was quite lucky because I got a decent spec, 2.2ghz, 200gb 7200rpm drive ( was looking for a 7200 drive specifically ), 1680 x 1050 screen, 1gb ram ( got 4gb waiting to go in ;) ), bluetooth, wi-fi, DVD R/W etc etc.

Anyways, with the Samsung 1680 x 1050, I think Dell call it the WSVGA+ screen, its okay. The viewing angles arent great, and it is a bit grainy, but perfectly usable. Maybe I got one of the better panels ??

The problem is that after reading other forums extensively, I have got the urge to see what an LG panel is like, as everyone is saying that it is much better.

I phoned Dell CS on monday, and got them to get a technician out to to replace the panel. I specifically requested that i have an LG , I even phoned the day after to check, and was told that I an LG part had been ordered.

However, the chap arrived yesterda, we opened the box, and guess what - it was another Samsung :( . I told him that I was not prepared to let him open up my laptop, just to try out another Samsung panel, and I sent him packing.

I will have another crack with Dell CS in ireland today, and try and get an LG ordered . . . but who knows . . . . .

Right its ordered:

XPS M1530
T7250 2.0GHz Core2Duo
3GB Memory
8600M GT
15.4" WXGA (1280x800) with Truelife
250GB HDD

Managed to get £80 off and then another 10% off. :D

Pretty much what I have been looking at ordering, spec wise.

Can I be cheeky and ask how you managed to get the discount off?. Been looking around the web for voucher codes, but the last code I can find for XPS lappy's is now just out of date.

Thanks.

Haven't noticed that light at all since i formatted vista though i tested it this morning and it was picking my phone up ok so i'm guessing it's working?

Maybe try those drivers a few pages down?

Yeah tried them :(

I think the problem was I installed XP with the switch off and switching it on for some reason is not picking it up.

Does yours show up ok in device manager?

Is there a way to tell from looking at the system identifier on the Outlet website which type of screen is on the machine?

Yeah seems to show up fine in device manager.

Sure i installed XP with the switch off as well .

Thanks for that mate.

I am now officially stumped :(

The only strange thing is my switch doesn't display on the screen when i switch it on and off. Which i'm sure with my first install of xp it did show up.

Did a second install as i tried that many drivers over the weekend :D

That's the spec I keep searching for on the Outlet.

What's the res like on a 15.4" display. Is the text clear enough to read from if you're using an external keyboard. I found 1280x800 too big on a 13.3" display (VAIO SZ) and think 1400x900 might again look too big on a 15.4" screen.

I like lots of desktop space and want as much vertical res as I can get. Currently use a 1400x1050 res on a 14" Thinkpad LCD.

What are the specs of the Blu-ray drive? I saw a couple of XPS 1530s on the outlet for ~£750. Wasn't sure if the Blu-ray was worth it.

I have good eyesight, and so 1680 x 1050 is fine for me, and I really appreciate the extra desktop space. One thing I will say is that the widescreen is very noticeabgle, and can make web pages etc look a bit strange.

Ref Dell Outlet machines.

You can bring up the spec on the Dell Outlet page, then right click on the page and choose 'View Source'. Search for the word 'Name'. The machine Tag number should be here.

You can then go to the Dell web site and check the warranty status on the Dell Site, in the Original Config Tab it should give you the Spec including what screen res, Bluetooth etc...

Mines been shipped.

Ordered 29th Feb about 9:30pm. Said it was built Thursday afternoon and then it was shipped Friday. Got a phone call Saturday to arrange a delivery time. Should be here 4th March. :)

Using your advice I checked the warranty page and this code eminates from a German order with German software and keyboard. Clearly they have rebranded and are selling as UK stock. Doesn't bother me - just interesting.

ALso interesting is that this week the delivery from the outlet is free again!

Just a few other silly questions. This doesn't specifically say it has bluetooth but the original German order included a bluetooth headset - can I assume anything there?

Also, are the back covers interchangeable? I have seen a few for sale listing both red and black covers....

Excited as hell now :) Really want to play about with it. Will be doing a full wipe and XP SP2 install as soon as I get it. Do we have a current "best" place to get drivers from for XP?
