Hey.

I've got this run of the mill guitar tuner that when bought came with 2 AAA 1.5v Batteries Alkaline batteries. They packed in a few weeks ago and for some reason I actually remembered to buy new ones on Saturday.
Picked up some Duracell AAA 1.5v Batteries, got home and swapped them for the old ones.

Tried the tuner, no lights nothing, so I checked the polarity as I'd been talking when putting the batteries in and thought, yer-a-plonker and mixed them up, but no, they were correct polarity.
I put the old ones in, and the LCD had a faint burst of life and then died.
The Duracell ones came with that daft tester thing, so I picked 2 new ones, (it was a pack of 6) and tested them, 100% charged. Tried them in it with correct polarity, no luck.

I grabbed the TV remote, swapped out the Panasonic ones in that for the Duracell, TV remote worked fine. Took the Panasonic ones to the tuner, no joy.

Looked at the old ones, 1.5 Alkaline AAA LR03 batteries, new ones are the Duracell M3 AAA 1.5 Alkaline which according to a site I can't link are "Energizer cross reference - LR03".

Not a big deal you'd think, but what the hell?

So.....your guitar tuner is broken?

Yes, but thats not the issue.

One point five volt alkaline batteries that seem identical in all values don't seem to perform the same, has anyone else came across anything like this in other battery powered items?

Only issues i have had has been when using rechargable batteries, rechargables seem to be 1.2 rather than 1.5 and therefore dont work in everything.

Thanks Saitrix, never heard of that before, i'll give it a try.
How did you hear of that problem?

Cheers.

Lol, I have done a lot of reading into batteries, bit of a sad thing to find interesting I know! Quite possibly the cells have both come with the higher end of the allowed voltages they sell them with. So the combo of the 2 might be too high for the circuitry inside the tuner.

Not at all Saitrix, the sad thing was the failed attempts at humor :), (including mine).
Quite a lot of people would be totally stuffed if people didn't take time out to teach/learn/work with batteries, including everyone who has a MB battery for their BIOS on this forum.

The issue never was the tuner, it was more about the battery.
Thanks for the info.

From reading your post you tried 3 different types of battery in the tuner and none of them worked yet 2 out of 3 of the same batteries worked in your remote. Hence most people have arrived at the logical conclusion that the tuner is knackered. Yet you're convinced something is up with your new batteries and haven't posted anything to explain your conclusion. This is why people are confused.

Thanks for your story. I am wasted out on drugs prescription drugs this week and you've made no sense to me at all :)
