Thinking of redoing my CV as I might start looking for another job soon.

I haven't touched it since 3 years ago when I did it for this job, and even then it was a rushed effort.

Came across http://www.cvcl.co.uk according to their site they charge between £32.50 and £54.50 which seems OK.

Anyone had experience with using these companies?

why would you use one?

get an example CV of a website (there are loads i am sure) then copy its layout.

you should try and keep it to one page imo

no way can you get enough detail down and look professional for 1 page. 2 page CVs are standard...

i disagree more pages does not equal better CV. if you need more than one page you are filling it with too much crap imho

I can't really understand why anyone would use someone else to write their CV for them.

If you can't even put a CV together (even if it is naff ) why would you apply for the job (as I'm sure a basic understanding of English and MS Word is essential in most these days)

Write it yourself, then ask peoples opinion. But don't have someone else compose it / write it for you - and then charge you for the service. It's no more difficult than writing a love letter.

heh I guess this is were we are going to disagree :)

however, how would you manage to get education, work experience & skills, on 1 page? with a normal size font? - I am interested out of interest tbh + any experience you have I would like to hear.

aa I see, I still prefer tbh, your right about the not putting you across well, makes it look that all you are are you computer skills.

cheers for sharing :)

it will depend on the roll you apply for i guess and at what stage of your career you are at.

I used cvcl a couple of months back and was very impressed with the service. I had my cv together already but wasn't particularly happy with it so thought i'd see what they could do.

Made a huge difference imo, and they were really helpful in terms of advice they gave regarding why they changed what they did (providing a 2 page doc explaining each change) and also were quite happy to go back and forth changing/adding things at my request until i was happy.

The final cv is only a single page (even though i have 8 yrs experience since graduating) but puts across my abilities way better than the original one i had. Sure it was a big factor in getting the interview for the new job i'm about to start on monday.

I haven't struggled so far with CVs, but surely if you can't write your own CV, you probably aren't fit to do the job?! After all, only you know about yourself best.

One page? There's no way I could fit all my relevant details on one page. Hell, I struggle to get mine onto two.

Anyone can go about listing previous employment details, education, skills etc. and having a decent layout but to make the C.V. look stunning, say exactly what you want to say in as small a space as possible and really sell you takes a lot of work, or not so much if done by someone who specialises in this. Using CVCL to improve you C.V. isn't a bad idea. Just make sure you've put down everything they may need to know about you first.
